Hand built paint rack for model paints ect

Post by Cabe » Thu Apr 03, 2008 10:52 am

I had been looking around the net to find a paint rack to store my ever growing pile of Tamiya and Acryl paints for my airbrush.
I saw some ok ones and then saw this one
http://www.miniaturescenery.com/SeriesPage.asp?Code=ACC
now that's a paint rack, but after trying to order one and it being out of stock and then trying to win one on ebay (which I did, then they told me it was on back order because they were sold out...man I WAS PISSED. And I let them have an earful about selling on ebay when you don't have the item to deliver...NO NO)

So I decided to get out my tools and make one and this is what I came up with. It still needs front panels put on the shelves (not necessary, but for my lit extra storage space, see below for that subject)

I also might put a door on the back and a fridge light on the inside that comes on when u open it. A nice storage spot for exra bottles of paint already on rack and other bottles not used every day.

So what I wanted to know is, who else would like one? This was my first one so I learned a lot from it. And yes it is huge, but I guess I could make them wider or shorter, whatever.

would anyone pay good money for one of these with customized design?

well a hobby shop in Dallas went under this month suddenly. I was able to purchase a full size store paint rack/display. I wanted the Tamiya or Acryl rack, but all they had left was the mr. hobby which thankfully is sized for Tamiya, Acryl and gunze paint sizes and all others like Vallejo can lay flat with the top (or front of bottle in this case) slanted towards me. SO I may be selling my small rack and my giant one, which is 2x the size of this one and as a door in back, but I may just keep it and the small one. I can put a board on top of my Mr. Hobby rack and set them up there

The big one though....it might need to go in favor of keeping the small rack for space's sake. You cannot dedicate much more space to paint storage after the large store display, though I do love my monster stairwell paint rack. I will post some pics
