21C 1/144 Armor clearance

I finally did it (sob-sob, cry-cry face in hands).

I finally bought my first 1/144 armor at WM tonight.

They were not marked as clearance but showed a shelf price of a measly buck. I figure I may as well dive in and go look tomorrow to see if the other WMs have them marked down as well.

They sure are cute when they are babies.

I picked up a few. I needed magnets on my fridge and dry erase board. So I got a package of tiny magnets from Radio Shack, a couple of WWII tanks in 144th... I'm sure you can see where this is going.

Now the dry erase board becomes a map/aerial view, and battles are planned, fought, and won or lost right in my kitchen.

See, now that's what I thought...

But when the Germans and Americans joined forces to attack the grocery list, and Sherman tracks were found all throughout the week's menu, I began to get some disapproving glances. I think maybe taking the vegetable magnets off of the fridge and using them to represent the crops in the various fields the armor was traversing might have been frowned on as well.

But who am I to complain? She lets me get away with tank magnets, and "decorate" with battle scenes wherever I see fit. Sometimes even helps me paint things that are too small, too fine, or just plain beyond my abilities. Maybe I'll draw back my forces and let the grocery list go...

Man what a "why didnt I think of that "moment I hope you are serious Because I like that idea. Can you tell me where you bought the magnets at and what kind etc? On second look I see where you got them what size and type was it though?

As for the type of magnet, I'm afraid that I can't say much. About all I have to offer is that the ones I got were round magnets ~12mm in diameter, and 6mm thick. This equates to roughly 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch. They came in pack of 4 or 5 (probably 4 unless I've lost one). The cost was minimal.

Now here's the tricky part. If I had it to do over again (which I plan to), I think I'd get the fancier magnets (about which I can tell you even less) from Radio Shack. I forgot what the were called, but they were on the same shelf, and touted to be super strong. At the time I thought their higher cost, though still reasonable, wasn't justified for something I was only toying around with. The main reason I'd get them is that they are stronger, as the ones I have are only so-so as magnets. They'll hold a sheet of paper, but not much more. Also, the stronger magnets are smaller, so they could be made to fit better. As it is now, the magnets I used don't quite fit between the tracks of the tanks, so the tanks sit a full 6mm off of the surface. upon further examination of the tanks, and the other magnets, one could easily drill out a recess in the tank and sink the magnet into the hull, allowing a much better look. I suppose that's why there's always next time...

I turned a couple of the 32x tanks and aircraft into Christmas tree ornaments, and I like the magnet idea as well
