2nd. wave of D-Day found

Post by MG-42 » Sun Jan 07, 2007 1:40 am

I found 5 of the 2nd. wave of new D-Day figures at Wal-Mart just after getting off near my work last night. I thought I'd just swing by and see if they got anything "new" in ,.. and "low and behold" ..... I don't have the capability to post any pics yet so I am happy to describe. ... I found : ... Both DAK ,.. the Capt. and the Inf., Pvt. and 2-Wehrmact > Officer w/ closed-coat and Pvt. w/ open-coat. ... The 5th. guy I found is U.S. : 82nd. Airborne Driver Pvt. Dan "Danny" Reynolds. He's sort of a mystery cause he is not included on the back of these cards or the 1st. wave. ... The accessories with this new wave are phantastisch ! ...... The Officers in particular are excellent IMO ,.. better than (S-1) ,.. and I needed afew more Officers too. 8)

Wow - can't believe 4 of these 5 new figures in this wave are germans. Maybe wave 2 are more than just 5? It would be great if you could post some pics in the coming days, MG-42. This would be phantastisch!

Man ,.. I wish I could and knew how to do it , sheesh ! ... I would. "Oh well" ,....... anyways , I wanted to say something about the 82nd. Airborne guy. ... He's wearing glasses too , just like Pvt. Mike "One Way" Harras on the back of all the cards. In fact , it looks to be as if it is of the same head-sculpt , "jeep-cap" and all. I don't have him yet so I can't really tell. ... Just thought you would like to know.

Looks like both of the next waves are out. The ones that IMM and MG found are different so all 18 appear to be on the street.. 8)

::edit:: 16 are confirmed.. that 18th mystery figure has yet to be sighted if it even exists.. odd that they would release two waves of six and one wave of five.. Also, I don't think anyone has found Frank "Wheeler" Hodges yet.. ::edit::

If you want pics for reference, here are the ones 21C issued a while back. Everyone's there including Reynolds with the glasses and Russo who also isn't on the cardback. All except mystery number 18 of course. ;)

Scroll all the way down and click on each image to make it bigger.

I found 11 this morning:
DAK Officer and Infantry;
Wermacht Officer (closed coat), Infantry (open coat), Dress Parade Enlisted;
D-Day Tank Driver, Tank Loader, Bazookaman, BAR Gunner, 82nd AB Officer, and 82nd AB Driver.
As for names, here they are (in the order listed above):
Cpt Newwnhaus, Pvt Dieffenbach, Lt. Odheim, pvt Kemnett, Pvt. Osternoh, Pvt Harris, Pvt Brewster, Pvt Jenkins, Pvt Smith, Capt Russo, and Pvt Reynolds.

It's nice that they picture all the figures on the card back. Terrific offerings. With all the XD clearance I've found, I guess I've still got a toehold in 1:18!

BTW, I found these in San Diego

So now its time to start hunting the Fresno, Ca Wal Marts - but with things torn up they way they are, it may be a while. I wonder which store they'll show up at first? Anyways, nice to know they are in Ca and not stuck somewhere in the east :wink:

Any figures my area WalMarts had all sold at Christmas and were never replaced, the pegs are all still bare.
I have a feeling that if/when they are restocked it will be with the ever popular Japanese Marines, not any of the new figures. :cry:

Aren't they all listed on the back of the card? I picked up everything I could find today and I pulled home 12. I am missing the 2 German infantry army builders. I got both DAK and I am very happy with the way they turned out. I found them at the Middletown, Ohio WM. I left a few doubles on the shelf so happy hunting.

I found them today, I have all except Richards and the mystery figure. It would not surprise me if Richards is not released. He looks like a composite of figs already released, particularly Hodges. He could be kitbashed with minimal difficulty. With all the other known figs available, I don't see 21C releasing a wave of just 2 figures, nor refresher waves with new figs mixed in.

A note of caution: the waist on my DAK pvt. broke as soon as I tried to twist it. Similar to the problems w/ the S1 Grenadier. I managed to push the torso and legs back together and it seems to be holding fine w/o glue. But I am not sur eif the waist was meant to have motion.

Secondly, the head of Odheim snapped off when I tried to put his cap on. The cap is too small. Again, the head was able to be reset on the neck joint and moves just fine w/o glue. But you may want to warm up the cap to soften it before applying it.

I try to make it a habit of giving my new figures a bath of "hot tap water" first ,.. to loosen up the joints. ... This does really help. :wink:

I found and bouth the majority of these around Pittsburght he other day... The 82nd guy is all that's left now and he's a real turd for the group despite his nifty coat to convert some guys for BotB.

The DAK are sweet but the paintjobs blow on the skin of all these figures, and I gotta say I'm a little disappointed at the rampant re-using of headsculpts (with barely a difference in paintjob) in these new figures. That plus some of the heads not having a hat/helmet that fits them is a little on the inexcuseable side since that's simply a design f-up. Gotta catch that stuff before it goes to production.

Anyway, great figures to me... Little repainting and there's some flawless work in there.

I agree, I found these same guys today. The paint job on the skin was so bad, it looked like the guys had a rash or were covered in dry blood. I guess a repaint is going to be in order so they look normal.

Some light work with goof-off might remove some of the overly washed skintones. I'm leaving mine be and hoping for new paintjobs at some point (maximize those toolings 21st! Paint some hair different, add a little stubble to some, maybe some headswaps, and you've got new GI's and Germans!) but at the end of the day I won't do much modifying to what I have.

I just don't get 21st's choices on some aspects of the figures...

So far there's only been one or two I haven't seen but all are sold out locally too so I hope more come in. BotB and BotB2 (and any repaints of BotB) came and went with little reshipping to speak of. I'd still like more GI's in trenchcoats and Germans of all kinds in those lines... The D-Day I'm hoping are a little heavier shipped. The Japanese dwindled steadily over Christmas so I hope this bodes well.

Between the Allen Road Peoria, Illinois and the Princeton, Illinois stores I have found all of the second wave of the D-Day figures.
Whomever came up with these headsculpts needs to go. Most of the helmets and or hats are difficult to put on, I had to shave off quit a bit to get a helmet on the German officer.
Why the influx of Mountain Troops for the Germans? I would prefer basic troops. What is the flash on the left shoulder of the DAK figures supposed to be?
Brown (as in leather) BAR ammo pouches?????
After loosening up most of the joints get really sloppy, to the point of not being able to keep the figure standing.

I was ta the local WM near my job at lunch today. They usaully dont have any 21stC stuff but today I hit pay dirt. they must of had at least 3 case of the New D-Day figures on the shelf with the Afrika Corp mixed in among them. So I bought all the DAK they had :D Will take to the military show on saturday and sell them.
