Summer/Fall Contest!!!!!

Post by blurx7 » Mon Aug 06, 2007 3:31 pm

OK, finally we have something to announce. :D

And if someone more knowlegdable than myself knows how to make this thread a "sticky" I would be obliged.

The contest will begin immediately, subject to one caveat.
We are planning three main categories.

Category 1 = Scale 1/50 and smaller

Category 2 = 1/32- 1/35

Category 3 = 1/16 - 1/18

We need at least ten entries in each category for this to work. So far, from everything that has been thus far posted, I have counted 17 would-be contestants, with some wanting to enter more than one category, which is fine. However, some have not listed a preferred scale yet. As you will see we are still a little short on entries. Here is what I counted today:

Cat 1 - Conteaddict, Warhawker, Philip (3 total)

Cat 2 - 1958zelda, migmadmavis, conteaddict, Panzer_M, Colonel Pickle (5 total)

Cat 3 - 1958zelda, Jay, RED, Colonel Pickle, Razor17019, normandy (6 total)

The following have stated a desire to compete but have not declared a preferred scale:

KAMIKAZE, Tool, Morian Miner, VMF115, Spudkopf, mediump

I expect we will need now to learn what scale these contestants wish to use, and whether there are further contestants available before we can absolutely declare this a go, but I am betting we have enough to proceed, even if we are forced to drop one scale for lack of interest. I also expect there are some board members who will join once the contest begins. Remember this. Our sponser feels a minimum of ten entrants per category is required, so if in the end we have less that that number of completed entries it will be up to his discretion as to whether or not to award prizes.

So...

If you are going to compete, please post to this thread your formal declaration asap, including your category (s). One week from today (or sooner if we get a lot of interest) we will determine if each category has enough interest to proceed.

THE RULES

1/ The contest begins today. All entries must be in by October 28, 2007 at Midnight Eastern Standard Time. Winners will be announced on Halloween, October 31, 2007. :D

2/ Entries are to contain either one or two photos, plus a storyline including what is happening in the moment shown in the photograph (s), as well as a "backstory" indicating whatever you choose to include about what has lead up to the moment, as well as whatever you wish to include about what will take place following the moment.

3/ Final entries are to be submitted by posting to this board, to this thread. Changes may be made until the contest deadline.

4/ No “photoshopping” or photo retouching is allowed.

5/ There are three categories. Category One will include scales of 1/50 and smaller. Category Two is strictly 1/32 through 1/35. Category Three is for 1/16-1/18

6/ All military campaigns and themes, WW1 through the present are exceptable. Be creative!

7/ Customization is allowed, without limits.

8/ Scratch-built components are allowed, without limits

9/ Entries will be judged by a team of judges to include, Lightning, V2 Man, and myself.

10/ Entries will be judged according to the following ten sets of criteria. Each criteria-point will receive a score from each judge, between one and ten, for a total of 100 possible points per entry per judge. The top point getter in each Category will receive the prize for that Category.

a/ Realism

b/ Framing

c/ Creativity

d/ Originality

e/ Use of Scenic Elements (trees, buildings, etc)

f/ Story Line ( What is happening in the photo?)

g/ Backstory ( What lead up to this moment? What happens next?)

h/ Lighting

i/ Detail

j/ Difficulty

Please feel free to post questions to this thread or by PM to V2 Man or myself. All contest rules become null and void should Lightning decide to end his sponsership at any time, without restriction. Hey, it's his money!

Let the games begin!! :D

I am not entering but just curious if prizes need to be donated since there are 3 categories and if there is a 1st 2nd 3rd that would be 9 prizes.

The plan is for one prize per category with the possibility of a grand prize to be awarded to the best entry overall.

Are we just allowed one entry?

Good question.
I will ask V2 Man to chime in here, too, but I would say that having multipleentries would be fine, as long as each entry is completely different.

As sponser, Lightning has agreed to provide the prizes. I guess we will have to wait and see if he wants to announce them now or later.

Good question. I would say no because it would be harder to judge. Blurx what do you think.

I'm in for category 1. Since customization is allowed, to what extent can we use non-diecast items? For example, in 1/72 scale there are loads of tanks but not alot of infantry or softskins in prebuilt/preprepainted form. Can we use whatever figures and regular plastic models we want?

If so, to what extent does the diorama have to include diecast items? Example, at least one diecast vehicle must be in the diorama, or at least half of what is shown must be diecast, etc...

Only one entry per category and for Tshintl you can use whatever figures and plastic models only if they are that scale you are doing. For the #2 part of your question you can use as much diecast nondiecast items as you like
