Day Draeming

G'day All

I have been quite busy with my Marine's Dream, pretty well since the day I got it, first up I decided to correct the tail wheel (which is still a WIP) making a fully castered version with a more accurate shape, I ended having to shelve both the castering and initial it’s initial slim looks to make it robust enough to hold up the to the weight of the aircraft so now it is a tad beefier than I originally intended but I am almost happy with the results. I also shortened the tail hook so it looks better in the gear down postion, I had to discard all but the ball joint and hook the rest being re-manufactured from aluminium tubing.

I have also had to do a lot more repainting than I initially suspected on the rear fuselage especially to the side that was hidden in the box. But this to is slowly coming together

Then I attacked what is probably the most annoying of the details, the rudder. I just had to hack of the piece than was incorrectly attached to the rudder and re-install it the vertical fin where it belongs.

As for the tail wheel itself I have created a new 20mm diameter tire with a cord of 5mm this is made to it look like the solid rubber ones used on most operational Corsairs, currently I’m working on the hub.

I will post pictures once finished.

Kevrut thanks for the comment.

Here is how the tail wheel has progressed so far, the hub is made of soft PVC so I'm having a little problem getting the paint to take correctly, this would not be such an issue if the plastic was not bright yellow to start with. Other than that minor annoyance it is almost done.

I have also tried to get the wheel position to look more correct when retracted but with only limited success, to this better the shaft of the tail wheel would need to be shorter but then the tail would also sit lower and this I did not want to do so as usual it's all a compromise.

Here are some shots.
