1/18 scale F-302...

Post by Bar » Sat Oct 21, 2006 3:45 am

I don't know if this is the place for this, but i am scratchbuilding an 18th scale F-302(A fictional aircraft from the Stargate tv show).
Here are the progress images(I have used the F-16 and F-18 for scale purposes):

 Geez, that thing's huge! Great job, though. Definately out of my league of abilities! Thanks for sharing.

It's a big aircraft for sure, but is is able to get into orbit, so it must have somewhere to store all that fuel...

There's another forum i am a member of, and they are having a competition.
The contest is simply called: "Yellow"
Ths subject can be anything at all as long as there is yellow on the piece.
I am going to paint this F302 up as a Blue Angels bird.
I can't wait to get finished and get it painted in that blue and yellow paintscheme.

After i finish this one, i have plans to make a master pattern for a 1/18 F-22.
I am hoping to get it made from blue foam, and in sections so it can be vac-formed as a complete kit.
I am still ironing out the details, though.
I'm usually more into sci-fi than actual aircraft(My gallery is here), but these 1/18 birds have me hooked...

Hey Bar,

First time I`ve spoken to you I believe so Firstly,Welcome to SSHQ.
Always nice to see a fellow customizer from this Great Isle of ours.

Now as an Avid customizer myself of both Military & Scifi/Fantasy etc I LOVE this.

I`m truely looking forward to seeing you have this completed.

So you up for making another one just to what`s pictured for me ;) Then I`ll take it from there :D

Must admit I`ve seriously given thought to a 1/18 Stargate & DHD though NEVER though of the fighter,Nice Choice & Excellently executed so far.

As for the colours of the Blue Angels eh,Interesting idea & Look forward to seeing that.

Thanks for the kind words.
After i have taken the pics of it as a Blue angels bird, it will be getting done up in standard f-302 colours(I have plans to go to Wonderfest in Kentucky, and i hope to take this as a contest entry).
This would be costly as a commission. It may not seem like a lot of work, but i have been working seven hours days on this since thursday morning, and that costs.
I will keep the updates coming.

Well if this ain't a small world. Welcome. Sent you info on "797" at the other site. Now I see what this is about now. I don't follow Sci-Fi shows so I'm gonna have to look that one up - Very clean work and engineering on the F302. This should be fun to follow!

Unfortunately this will not be a master pattern. It's just a contest entry for another forum.
But i am considering another paintjob for it.
A friend of mine asked if i would do one of those "paint peeling off" tigermeet schemes, and i am considering it for this ship.

Stay tuned.

G'day Bar

Don't let Jack get near it, as he often takes off but seldom lands the things.

I'm a huge Stargate fan myself, as for your 203 it looks mighty fine "indeed", however I would have liked to have seen it finnished in the show colours instead, I'm sure it has yellow on it someware.

Any plans of vac-forming it as well and making a kit of it also?

When i have built it, taken pics, and entered them into the competition, i will do a full re-paint in standard SGC colours. This will truly be a one-of a kind model. I will have the only one anywhere, so i will not be able to go and buy another one to do multiple paint-jobs...

Actually, on my short list of tools i'd like to purchase is a small table saw.
If i could get my hands on one, i could make a plywood set of masters in about the same time as it took me to get this one done.
A vac-formed set of parts would be do-able if i got the saw.
I don't know if there would be a big market, though...
Size is a factor for a lot of folks.
Can you picture one of these as an RC plane?
Even better, a squadron of them...
I once made a master pattern for a 1/24 kit of the 302.
The guy i made it for is a bit slow in releasing it, though.
Here are some pics of it:

I am normally more into SciFi than real-world subjects, but i have just become crazy into real jets for some strange reason.
I recently started a conversion on one of the new GiJoe toys. As usual for toys, it is ever so slightly unrealistic:

I removed the wings, added reversed F-14 Wings, and reprofiled the cockpit bubble.
Now it looks a bit better(But it's still not finished).

It's still a WIP, of course..
I'm thinking of giving it different wings again...

G'day Bar

I am glad that you are going to return your 203 to operational colours when the comp is over.

I agree that a market for a kit 203 would be very limited, I have noticed that on the SG1 forums that the general reaction to action figure related topics is usually quite non-plus as this side of the obsession is generally regarded as far too Nerdy even by the extreme fans.

I on the other hand would love to see a full range of 1/6th or 1/18th scale (instead of the 6" offering as I already collect far to many scales) merchandise produced by a mainstream company.

However knowing our luck the license would go to Hasbro or Mattel and we would end up with more multi scaled Toy fodder with glow in the dark disc cannons instead of BBI, 21stCT or Dragon type quality stuff.

I have already got hold of the Marauder SG1 set of weapons and I am trying to source 4 BBI Navy Seal Night Ops figures to use as a base figure four my SG team.
