This is the 1/16th kit from Verlinden adapted (or assembled so to speak) for a 1:18th crew.

Which german figs are those? Are they the new ones from 21st? I thought they weren't released yet.

In this situation a couple of scales difference isn't that noticable. Very nice addition.

i've noticed small arms type weapons you can get away with overscale, for some reason. Looks great. I made a similar one out of a new ray mortar.....doesn't look as good though. When the heck are we going to start getting some german heavy weapons (mortars, heavy machine gun on tripod etc)

Relax..

We have the German MG-34 on Dreifuss Tripod. We also have the MG-42 on a bipod which is how it was predominantly used. We also have a Panzershrek, and panzerfaust out the ying-yang. It is just the mortar we are really missing.

and the heavy machine gun tripod which was very, very much used during the war. The mortar and tripod were two big german mainstays and i'm surprised that neither has been covered after 6 year of xd.

The kit cost around $20 or so. Available from www.internethobbies.com last I checked.

There are two (at least) of the German mortars available. 8cm (the in my original post with crew) and a 120mm. Below is a size comparison.

Given how large the 120mm appears to be I'm not sure it will look realistic next to 1:18th troops. Research pending. I am pretty sure the Russians had some huge ones so worst case, I'll save it for when the Russian 1:18th troops come out. :D

I've also included shots of each box so you can see the part numbers and order the right one (per your preference).

The picture of the mortar with crew has been updated to show proper two handed technique. Thank you all for not pointing fingers at Klaus the one handed macho idiot in the first post. ;)

Also, if you haven't tried a Verlinden kit yet, know in advance that this is definately a model and there are a ton of parts even for such a small piece as this. Makes for a very detailed final product, but did they really have to cut the rounds in half? Sheesh.. ;)

the 120mm mortar is actually a russian mortar, captured and used by the germans in large numbers. You could also use it for a custom Russian crew as well.

That is good news aferg. Good enough to make me pull out the handbook of German Military forces. Excellent reference for any of you that don't already have it.

Interesting discoveries.. Both the germans and russians had a 120mm. The german version was the Granatenwerfer 42. It was an almost exact copy (according to the book) of the Russian 120mm. Some of the german ones even had wheels.

Anyway, they had a great picture of the Granatenwerfer 34 in use with crew. If you compare to the pictures of the one I built, it looks very much in scale. (imho) :D
