Anyone tried this yet? My own effort will eventually be to convert it to a German SDK.
Here are some scale comparison photos taken of the 1:32 Tiger I and SDK 222 next to the 1:18 Tiger I and Chap Mei SWAT armored car.

That is too close to not give it a try. Looks spot on, to me.

i have thought about it many times. It looks most like a little wwii british daimler and it's exactly the right size. It actually looks like a cross between the bigger humber and the little daimler, and is the daimler's size.
I figured with a bit of mod and a nice black and sand paint scheme it will be good enough. Capture the 'essence' of it anyway.
I never thought of doing a 222, mostly because i know 21c has a prototype of one in XD and i figure they'll release it someday.
(by the by the chap mei a/c is actually patterned after a postwar french panhard armoured car and is the correct size too. It's just not as interesting, to me anyway. The french panhards saw a little action in the angolian war.)

you may want to change the wheels on the chap mei, as the ones it comes with are too small in diameter and too wide. Use 1/32 diecast tractor tires, they look much better. You can find cheap tractors at WM or TRU.

The panhard armored cars saw quite a bit of service in South Africa as Eland armored cars. The South africans would take on T-34 85s using the 90 mm gun version with flank or rear shots. That took guts

I just won an auction for the armored car and have been researching the Daimler, Aferg is right about the wheels, thanks for the tip on how to fix it.
The auction included a couple of other chap mei tanks , probably their version of the Bradley?

here's a link to a clear pic of the Eland. If you have the chap mei armoured car you can see that it's almost an exact copy of it.

Grunt found this...what do you guys think about the cannon at top left? Anyone got one? Is it similar to anything real?

Great Idea. I hope to see 21st give us the 222 one day at 1/18th though this is indeed a possible option to chase up.

the cannon doesn't look like anything recognizable to me, unfortunately.

So where would one go about acquiring one of those armored cars? There's squat on Ebay.

the armoured cars were available about 5 years ago...in huge numbers, here anyway. But long gone now.
You have to keep looking on ebay and be patient. I think it's worth getting. Out of all the chap mei stuff i like it the best. The Merkava i like second best.

Okey doke. Even with just a coat of desert sand and some decals, I think it would fit in nicely.
Thanks.

Check the occational Dollar General store
for those armored cars. A few of the stores still have them around here.

Have two or three of these, cannon is similar to modern Royal Ordnance 105mm light gun.

Wow! Great information! Do you know that for sure, afergusen? I've never seen a pic of this prototype so far - which is strange because mostly they show their prototypes on Toy Fair or San Diego Comic Con. A 222 in 1:18 would be great news! Let's all hope for it in 2007.
