(EDIT WOW...apparently i was on sleep medication..sorry for the trainwrecked post!!! boy that was embarrasing.)

anyways.

not saying i have skill, i decided to try my hand at some scale modeling. i figured rather than some extravagant "tall order" ..i need start simple.

modeled is a simple AKERS-BARNES COCKPIT (ABC-m.II) that many of us flight sim guys use at home.

its made out of 3/4 inch thick plywood. initial design allows you to break it down, and flat pack it into ANY size car.

for the SIMPLE model (we all start somewhere) i used regular foamcore/posterboard that you can get at wallyworld. both the keyboard holder (top pronged thing) and the desk portion slide in and out to make room for legs, and the gaming scenario.

seat is adjustable /functional , just like the real one (simple) it does break down into IKEA flat packin.

no measurements were taken during the build, nor did i reference the actual one i have upstairs...so all dimensions had to be cut by careful planning, drawing. so that was fun. but a waste of time :P

so heres a few shots

actually for fun, im trying to model my room, that the cockpit is in. i feel this will be a simple, but effective way to get into the hobby.

remember its not supposed to be "refined"...a simple immersion device for flight simming.. there is nothing hi-tech about it... hence my simple model :P

Thats a fun idea! I've seen some professionals that created very realistic cockpits for use in flight simulator games, yours is a practical solution and now you've got me thinking... You need to figure out how to make the seat vibrate when you get hit, etc

they make a unit close to what your talking about. its " buttkicker gamer"

its not a speaker, but an actial bass shaker (?) so your volume isnt even on if need be, but the chair is being thumped to your music.

in the real seat on mine, the sub woof is sitting in the bottom area between floor/seat..

I've done several of these "How To's" from flightsim.com....go here and you might get some great ideals and details. http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/m-howto.htm

Hahahahahaha,

I glanced and for a second I thought you wrote "anus" VENTO and I was thinking of sub woofers under the seat!!! The words "Anus Shaker" shot through my mind....

I know, man I'm tired.

I gotta get some sleep.....

actually, if you look close enought just to the right of the hat...you'll see the black edge of the subwoofer :D while it hasnt made me personally "VENT" yet from the bass, its convincing enough with a flight sim engine full roar. which i do crank up.

the pics of the actual simpit are kinda old. the foam has been replaced with an AK-RATCHET gaming chair.

as soon as i get some time. i think joe needs to get a small scale mouse, keyboard, and monitor. the foamcore is just used as a template for now.

its not much, but im really happy i rediscovered this hobby. i realised most items arent HARD to make, just time consuming. now knowing this, my patience is slowly getting better. and that "baby steps" is the best way to go.

a simple start, but i feel im accomplishing something fun and constructive.
