I want to remove the unit number from a Panther tank. Does anyone know a easy way to do this?

Unfortunately, I am unaware of one. I just covered with paint.

While not exactly pretty, it works well enough for me.

What I do is I changed the number. Like the german half track 13 I changed it to 18.

G'day lsc1002

flpickupman's approach is highly acceptable, I have seem many examples of German tanks and planes where new numbers are applied over a painted out older number.

The olny other method is to sand off the existing numbers with and touch up the paint and reapply the new numbers, this is what I would do.

So, don't kill me if after using this method you have to repaint the entire piece, but I have had 100% luck on this when I have used it.

Nail Polish Remover (the kind with alcohol). You carefully rub some on the numbers and they will likely come off... now, depending on the piece it may also take the paint below it too.

I have used this on figures etc to remove patches and rank and it works perfect.

It takes a little while for the rubbing to take effect, but once it does it all comes off pretty quick.

Another idea, from the model railroad world, is to use Formula 409 cleaner. Use a q tip and rub it. Usually you can get the number off and leave the base paint behind...
