thank you for your comments,,, I am still not happy with my photos,, I can't seem to get the close-up detail I want with my digital camara. I am experimenting with different light. It was cloudy when I took these, I will try some more in direct sunlight.

Those pics look pretty good to me. The lighting wasn't bad at all. :)

I love how the sand "wall" of your steps makes it look like those boys are patrolling the streets of downtown Baghdad. :-D

You might try the macro setting on your camera if it has one.
