Figuring 1:18 scale

I hope I am not showing my ignorance, but am wondering if there is a simple rule of thumb for converting to 1/18 scale. Is it simply a matter of dividing 1 by 18 and using that to multiply to my dimension of the fullscale plane to get the 1:18 scale dimensions?
Thanks,
Todd

Use this link
http://users2.ev1.net/~jimbobwan/scalcalc.htm. The only problem is you need to convert everything into inchs or centimeters. I use that to check my work. I hope that helps.

1/18 scale means just that. The model is 1/18th the size of the real thing. Therefore every dimension on the model is 1/18th the dimension of the real thing.
You don't HAVE to convert to inches but it makes the answer easier to work with usually.
eg a 36 foot long plane is 36/18 or 2 feet in 1/18th scale.
a 27 foot long plane is 27/18 or 1.5 feet....since there are 12 inches in a foot you just multiply by 12 so 1.5x12=18 inches. So the model of a 27 foot long plane should be 18 inches long.
Once you get good at it you can often convert in your head. One inch in 1/18 scale is 1.5 feet (or 18 inches) on the real thing.....so a 45 foot long plane is 30 inches in 1/18 scale.

G'day momaw nadon
Here's a little Excel Based Caculator that I made and use.

Let me know if it makes sense or helps.

aferguson is right, I just put up that link for the guys that are mathematically challenged

. Plus you can use it for all scales. I only use it when I'm not sure about my calculations, we all make mistakes

.
