Small Scale Military Headquarters

Hi, it's been a long while since I've been here, but some may remember me going all the way back to the original Groundpounders site. I haven't been around here much because I've changed focus on my collecting. I have gotten into collect and restoring full sized Military vehicles. I currently have 2 a 1967 Kaiser Jeep M35 deuce & half and a 1967 Kaiser Jeep M715 5/4 ton weapons carrier. Well the bug bit me to try and build a "mini me" M715 in 1/18 scale to added to my still large collection of 1/18 military stuff. I ended up having to use parts from 3 vehicles to make the one i wanted. A 1/18 Jeep wagoneer diecast provided the front half, a XD Command Car for the drive train and other bits and pieces, and a XD M151 mutt for M-series items like lights and radio mounts, and the seats. Plus quite a lot of scratch building of items like the box, troop seats, removable soft top, grill guard. Anyway here are some pics.

That is a mighty fine 1:18 replica of a M715!

Thanks everyone. It was a challenge to figure out what parts were needed to kitbash them together to make an M715. I wanted it to function like the real thing so it has features like removable soft top, removable soft top frame, folding troop seats, removable troop seats, folding windshield. The only feature I didn't get to work with it was a hindged tailgate. The M715 has funky hindges the fold out to clear the rear bumperettes and lets the tailgate fold all the way down. This was just too hard to make in 1/18 scale and make it sturdy enough to work well.

As far as the deuce goes, it's on hold until I find some 1/18 scale wheels that are close in size and style. it will have to be 100% scratch built as I know of nothing even close to use as a base vehicle.

Awsome work on the 715. It looks identical to your 1:1. I have also been wanting the M35 for quite a while in 1:18th as well.

Which one of the two guys in the cab is you?

I got into 1/18 because my son gave me a CC because we once owned a 1/1 CC and my boys both learned to drive in the CC as son as their feet could reach the pedals. Nice idea, small versions of your real stuff., gotta think about that..

I just stuck some of the regular VN guys in it for pics. After all the work on the M715 I didn't have the energy to custom out a matching figure. Besides, 21st doesn't have any figure heads that are as ugly as I am.
