Anyone put a door gun on their Huey?

I seem to remember someone taking pictures of what they had done. I want to put a M60 gunner in my Huey, and because I'm lazy I just want to have the bungee chord slings. Anyone got a good picture of how they've done it, or a good picture showing an actual setup?

yes i've put door guns on my Huey...it's a work in progress actually.

Just search on the net for a while and you'll find some good pics. The bungee set up is correct for the 21c huey C anyway. The pintle mounted M60's were only used on Huey D models.

It's a pretty simple set up. A bungee cord hooked to the ceiling of the Huey, towards the back of the cabin and then tied to the M60. A big box of ammo on the ground, often with smoke grenades stuck to the outside of it. Same set up on both sides.

To be complete you'll need to make 'monkey harnesses' too. These are 10 foot long cords, bolted to the Huey's floor that attatch to a harness the gunner wears, so they can get right out on the landing skid when gunning without fear of falling to their death.

Morian,

It's more work but UH-1 B/C models did use door mounts. The mounts they used were "Sagami" mounts. This mount connected to a frame mounted outside the cabin door and it had the ability to swing out allowing for loading and unloading of the helicopter. On UH-1s that had external stores like the 21st Century version, the mount was connected to that frame. Many armaments were used on these mounts including .50 calibers (most notably the US Navy's Seawolves).

An extraordinary reference book to use would be Squadron/Signal's Walk Around Number 36 UH-1 Huey Gunships. I have this book and it is wonderfully illustrated with detailed pictures of the different armaments used on the UH-1. It also shows some very good pictures of the bungee system you are doing.

This website is a really good online source for helicopter armament systems:

Just in case you are interested in filling out the rest of the external armament on your Huey, here a some great references I found from the website I linked above:

This is the system (XM-21) I am working on for two of my Hueys:

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for the help.

Went back through some of my books and found some decent pictures of the door mounts (but no good bungees :? ). I'm thinking now about putting a bungee on my Hogshead (since I haven't take the rocket pods off that one) and the door mount on my Slick. Hey, I finally finished my M113, so I need something else to do, right?
