WIP though almost done DPV

Post by steelbonnet » Thu May 11, 2006 1:55 am

Hi All,

Well I`m doing a WWII commission & have been working on this along side his stuff.

Well I`ve been working on a DPV & arming it for good old fashion Behind enemy lines Ops :D

It`s based on REAL DPVs & also some from customized 1/6th versions i`ve seen & truely admired.

Anyway here we go.

First off I took the PTE DPV to use as base. I removed the roof from the BBI DPV & added it to the PTE DPV instead (once i removed the PTE crossbar).

Next a Quick knock up of the Armarment it`s going to have. It`s got a M2 HMG on the roof,MK19 passenger front facing & for rear defence a Minigun.
Image

Next to make it look more realistic I`m making Belt feeds & ammo boxes for each of the 3 weapon systems. First off the .50 M2 HMG. I used the ammo can & belt from the PTE Littlebird (Actually the PTE littlebird belt is used for all 3 weapon systems. It`s cut down in width to corespond with calibre).

Here`s showing the cut down version of the PTE belt for both the 40mm for the MK19 & also for a link belt for the minigun.

Next I went back & dremeled each of the grill holes into the BBI roof section (This is how it SHOULD be instead of molded to look like).

Next was to make Strong Points & Bracket mountings for the Ammo cans & also for the Laptop for the rear gunner.

LAP TOP first i think.

I added a "L" shape bracket to the rear of the monitor section of the laptop,to be the securing pice to the strongpoint on the frame work.

Here is the Strongpoint I added to the Roll cage for the lap top & also further up on the framework is a shelf to stow the .50 M2 ammo can.

Next we have the bracket for the MK19. Just used the actual one from the tripod.

The MK19 fitted with ammo belt feed & can stowed.

Notice TOW chain secured on the bars at the front.

The Minigun Installed & ready to Rock `n` Roll.
The Minigun is from the PTE littlebird with M2 handles added.
The ammo can is a Vertical stowed MK19 ammo can with aforementioned PTE Ammo belt width cut down to be link belt.

Notice the Comm sets in the side cage.

Using the Laptop. It has a drop down keyboard.Need to afix a screen piece yet.

Well there you go of what i`ve done to date. I still need to do a few more things to it like add a Roof mounted GPS & ariels. Also stowed kit & spare Wheel too. The crew also need finishing off as well.
The guys you see are the crew though not completed yet.

I`m pretty Happy with how the belt feeded weapons have ALL come together & certainly makes the DPV look VERY Mean IMO.
The belt feeds & ammo cans were the Most important thing to get right IMO,as they DO have to look real.
Laptop was inspired from a 1/6th custom version I`d seen once.

So just wanted to share this DPV off to what I`ve done so far.
Oh colour wise I`m keeping the Grey. Reason being is the guys & most of the kit is going to be Black,I thought it would be a Nice contrast in colour & moreso show the figures & kit still whilst ALL onboard & stowed away.

Anyway please LMK what you guys think :D

Thank`s very much guys :D

Jeff thank`s mate & always nice to hear from a fellow in the UK :D

Blaster,
Thank`s very much mate & glad you can see the work spent on the ammo feed for the weapons :D

That was my Main worry getting the ammo feeds & cans right for the 3 main weapons & I`ve done to a part that i`m happy with. They look about right, they work & the weapons can move with NO hindering from the feedbelts so All GOOD news really :D

The Laptop is something I was inspired by seeing in a 1/6th custom DPV a few years ago.Stuck with me :D

Just need to add a few more things inc the Roof mounted GPS unit & stowed kit & we`re laughing :D

Nice to see the DPV with SHARP teeth :D
