Edit - more pics of yet more Panzer commanders

Post by markecho » Sat May 06, 2006 9:37 am

Well not that much a custom...and really a work in progress (cuz I have to finish the white and black trim) -
but this is what I wanted for german tank commanders (sans the headphones).
Now if 21st C would just release a black uniform tanker carded figure!!!! Even though the pea dot and other camo is cool too!

Looking at it more closely now...I need to learn how to carve/sculpt so my panzer crews will have ears!

Thanks SteelBonnet - that is about the furtherst I can go with customizing..heh!

But these guys are like clones...I just gotta have more (also expecting more armor in the distant future so I am stocking up on crew now.) But yeah if they come out with a more summer/spring tanker uniform...I hope they release enough!

Here's more tankers....(finally got a full crew - not pictured - just need to find more different heads!)

I'll be tackling some sherman crews in the near future also!

Great work! That's sort of what I did with my BoBII tankers

The removable hats are great as they allow for alot of headswaps, so one can potentially make a crew that doesn't all look like clones. For fun, I put that "old guy" head that came with one of the US BoBII figures on a German tanker's body with the commander's hat, so now I have a seasoned veteran Panzer commander. Now if only 21c would release US tanker figures with removable helmets...

I find it totally bizarre that they haven't considering the USMC Sherman driver comes with a removeable tanker helmet. They obviously have the helmet mold, why not utilize it?

That is exactly what I was thinking. If 21c had put a paratrooper head on the tanker body; included the hat, coat, and extra head and infantry helmet, I'd have blown alot of $$ on US tankers in the manner that I have the German ones.

Nice job on the tankers. I've done a few head swaps myself to create crews that aren't clones. Also, how did you make the maps they are looking at? In the first picture, what is that German Infantry guy doing in the corner behind the Kubelwagen? Perhaps he is answering nature's call? :P

Thanks again guys the the kind words - yeah I am glad 21st finally came out with a removable commanders and crew hat. Just wish the went a little further and had the headsets off also...but hey at least they got close..and I am happy with what they did.

What!?? They did a US tanker with removable helmet? Anyone have any pics? I had the 1st issue Pac sherman but did not know the USMC version (sand camo right?) had a tanker with removable helmet.
Man while I was doing all this cutting I was looking at the head of the US crews and I wondered how hard it would be to carve out the tankers head to have a removable helmet. Anyone try this yet?

tmanthegreat I sort of did something similar, I used the "older" german fallschirmjager officer (is that the one?) as one of the veteran troops. But isn't he sort of looking up?

pokeyjtc the map was from Build-A-Rama..it came in this set:
http://www.build-a-rama.com/1_18/WWII_r ... o_18.shtml
But I think there are plenty of Ardennes maps if you just google it and then print it 1:18 scale.
..and yup when ya gotta go..ya gotta go  heh!
