1/32 Xtreme Wings B-25!

Hi Guys,

I have been working on this for awhile now. I picked up an old gas powered and junked Aurora B-25 on evilbay sometime ago and decided to customize it into a standard 1/32 scale B-25. I hope to post a detailed build photographs on my webshots account in the near future. However, I can tell you the original plane had severe nose damage, was missing the top turret, no decals and had rusting landing gear.

I kept as much of the original plane as possible. It was an old screw together kit so that was simple. I took the plane apart and sprayed it. I added 50 calibar machine guns in all positions using cut down guns from corps figures because they were cheap to find. The plane is fully crewed, I used 1/32 scale pilots from the XW aircraft for them. No bombs in the bomb bay because the wing is in the way on the inside.

The original airplane was a solid nose model, but I wanted the glass nose. Using the gulliows kit, I was able to piece together the glass nose and make it fit. It's not 100 percent accurate, as the Guillows B-25 is slightly larger despite the fact these two planes should be the same scale. The nose was made by using the clear canopy from the kit, then a piece of cardboard as a rib form, then a piece of plastic on the outside. It came out pretty darn good I must say. I then added the front landing piece from the Guillows kit as well as the top turret. Propellors, the original plane came with none, are from two Revell 1/32 scale Corsairs. The plane is colored similar to Briefing Time, the plane based right here at home in Reading. The whole project took about a month for major building.

I still have to work on the tail, wasn't happy with the original spray job I did and do the decals and the small details. But it is mostly finished and I wanted to share this thing with all of you. A neat piece to add to my collection. Wingspan is about 25 inches.

Nice work. It it looks pretty flawless to me. Please do post more pics when you arrive at the end result. I recall having a gas powered P40 when I was a kid. Never got the thing to work...

That's some wonderful work! When you're done, I imagine it will look nearly as good as if 21c made it  Please post more pics of the completed project!

thanks

Thanks for the comments.

This what the airplane looked like before I started work. Mostly intact, but there was a big melted section of the nose, missing the top turret, decals gone, rusty gear, the works
