After beating my head against the wall for about the last 5 hours (I used the photo editing program The Gimp. An excellent program and it's free too! :D ), I finally finished what I feel will be an acceptable representation of the nose art from Herschel 'Herky' Green's P-47. What I created is now my avatar, and below is an actual photograph of Green's nose art. They're a bit different, but not enough to really matter. Even in 1/18th scale. Now all I have to do is find some decal paper and print it out.

and here's the 1/18 example for reference..

Very nice work.

Someday, I might finish my shark mouth for my AH-64 (which isn't that HARD, it's just finding the free time...)

excellent

'pickupman... great work - do you have that decal making software at home? like the Testors one? and JA... the only other 'art' I've seen on the Apaches is the West Coast Choppers Logo on the side panels of the Engine Cowlings. I think It may have been a unit from Texas. I saw it on the Jesse James Site about a year ago - it kicked ass!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the positive feedback. :)

Decal making software? Uh oh. No I don't. Where's the best place to locate some?

Haven't painted the plane yet. Thought I'd get one of the hardest parts out of the way first. If I couldn't locate/create the nose art, there wouldn't be much point to painting the plane. 8)

The next step will be seeing if I can replicate the other digit I need to change the AC # from 17 to 11. I hope to be able to do this via decal, but will be content with a stencil. The final goal will be to see if I can match the paint at a Home Depot or perhaps a dedicated paint store. Paint matching may be the stickiest aspect of the custom. With all that needs to be covered, an off color would be blatant. The last thing I want to do is repaint the whole plane. I think I'd rather repaint a Stuka.. lol

Trust me, once this puppy is done I'll be more than happy to share.
