Aircraft Carrier decking

I've been doing some work in some computer graphics programs on IJN and USN carrier decks. I'm going to have them printed out (at about $7 per square foot) and dry mount them on a board to display my various Navy aircraft. They will mostly be 24" square, but will be bigger for the Avenger. I may even do a larger section to put both Bunker Hill A/C on.

This is a section of my IJN deck I just finished:

As soon as I have a section done, I'll do some photos of my Agaki Zero on it.

The USN decking is in process but not quite there, yet. I've not found the actual specs for the any IJN or USN decking boards, but came up with close sizes and spacing from examining historic photographs; in order to make it scale out correctly.

WOW!
I would be interested in this when you get the US decking made.
I was just thinking that the Avenger will need some decking to land on!
Show us some pics when you get the US decking ready.

Email me wave17019@fuse.net and we can work out the details...

That is a very cool idea and the image looks great.

Could be quite the business venture...really a sweet concept.

USN carrier deck

Still a ways from photos with aircraft, but here are some cropped sections from the 24"x24" section. I included a 'fresh' deck version and a 'worn' deck version. Easy to do with the layers in Photoshop. The scale size of the deck sections represents about 36'x36' feet. The Avenger will overhang quite a bit but will sit nicely on this. The Zero and Corsair will fit very well (and a Dauntless, I might add )

Will take a week or two to get to a printer and back.

BTW, the bluish color represents the blue deck stain used for the wartime camouflage "measures". I may try a pre-war natural wood version, although so far there is no need because of the aircraft offered.

how much is it going to cost you to get it printed out to scale size?

The place I'm using charges $7 per square foot for full-color graphics printing. My scale deck is 24"x24" (about 36 scale feet square) which will run me $28 +tax. I'll use spray adhesive to mount the print to some kind of stiff surface (to be determined). I have the IJN deck being printed now. This is not an original idea... I got the notion after seeing 1/72 and 1/48 scale plastic molded decking by Eduard and 'Just Plane Stuff'.

Here's a full lo-res image of my IJN deck:

Based upon this photo of the Shokaku deck (courtesy "A6M Zero In Action" by Squadron/Signal):

The Agaki deck was constructed the same with similar markings. Maybe not exact, but close enough for my purposes. I do need to revise it to put more space between the white stripes.

Here are some photos of my 24"x24" aircraft decking. The USN is pretty blue, but the wood decks were often stained a blue. I may do a more greyed out version of the US deck. I particularly like how the IJN deck turned out.
