I've had success with milliput, but I know there are tons of others out there.

What brands do you guys prefer for filling holes, scratch-building, sculpting, etc.?

I’ve had good results with Tamiya putty and Squadron putty. I’ve tended to use Tamiya putty the most as it is what my local hobby store carries. The Tamiya putty is a little “thinner” than the Squadron putty and works better with smaller holes. It dries in as little as 30 minutes though I think one should wait several hours for it to dry completely before sanding.

I ordered some Deluxe Materials Perfect Plastic Putty to try out. From the youtube videos it looks like a nice product.

It has a tendency to dry up inside the tube before you've had a chance to use much of it. Apparently it is a flaw in how the cap fits. Other than that, it was quite easy to use.

I use Bondo glazing putty . It is red dries fast and for the size tube cheaper than green stuff and Squadron putty.

It also come as a 2 part glazing putty that dries in seconds.

Plus you can get it at Ace and O Reilies ( open till 8 -7 days a week )

It also sticks to paint

It is all I use.

pickel,

How does it sand with regular hobby files/sandpaper? I gave up on Squad green because I couldn't deal with the odor issue in the space I was using. Lacquer thinner is the only other substance I use that gives me the nasty headache that green 'tar' gives me.

I have used bondo to auto body repair and that I can handle (my dad was a surfboard shaper and dune buggy builder decades ago so I grew up around Bondo).

It sands great.

But it does have a little odor to it.

I work with a fan blowing in my face so the odors are blown away.

Out of the tube it has the consitancy of tooth paste.

Depends on what i'm doing I use regular testors for filling seams very small areas but the Milliput Superfine Whit is a fantastic product. I use it for sculpting and fabricating parts and pieces from everything from Pilot helmets to just about everything.
