3D Printed ALQ-144 Radar Jammer

Post by pizzaguy » Sun Aug 28, 2016 7:51 pm

My son helped me 3D design a ALQ-144 radar jammer for my MH-60.
I always thought the one on there was toyish and wanted to replace it.
This was done with the cheaper rough material. I've tweeked a couple things and will print the final in SLA for a smoother finish. The camera light makes it look rougher than in person. Plus it doesn't help enlarging the image. The reflective mirror is vinyl that I cut in the plotter. If there's interest I can mold the final and make them available.

Excellent idea, Pizzaguy!
I've tried many way to make it better. Wooden stick where I tried to cement square plastic diamonds from a child jewelry kit. Aluminum rod with filed faces. But I'm not a jeweller. Sticked folded aluminium sheet on the original piece. Well... hopeless for me to do that.
Could you tell us a price range? I would like 2 or 3.
Thank you for this project!

I'd be interested in 5 or more depending on cost.

The final will be printed in High Definition Plastic printed on a DLP (digital light processing) 3D printer. Uses laser to project the item into liquid stuff a layer at a time to produce the part.
SLA and DLP are liquid light cured material. Both with good detail.

The original is 12.61mmØ x 13.78mm tall.
My part is 10.5mmØ x 11.06mm tall

Does anyone else feel the original seems a little to big? The life size ALQ at 1/18 scale is 17.74mmØ x 19.05mm.
Much larger than BBi or my version.
Let me know if you think I should scale up my version.

Thank you Pizzaguy for the details and pricing. I didn't think when looking on pics that the original device was much bigger than the BBI version. But if so, yes, it could be better to scale up a little bit the ALQ-144 model. Perheaps not so much than the genuine to avoid problems when placing the thing on the base (I've made holes from the same diameter to put the rod as previously described with my own, bad rebuild). But I'm also writing this because I'm used to the shape of my UH-60.

Received a better scaled version. First pics are of the raw version out of the box.

OK, I need 3 from the better scaled and finished version. Is it the same price you told us at the begining?

The prices mentioned above are still good.
I should clarify the prices are for the items, shipping needs to be added.

The landing gear on my multiple Blackhawks are getting tired as the wheels bow out more and more. It would be great if you did a simple stand to take the weight of the helicopter off its landing gear. I'd be in for multiples.

You looking for a tall stand or a short one just to get the wheels off the ground?
I can do one that's reversible to display a take off/landing profile.

Personally mine are displayed up high so I was thinking of a short, get the gear off the ground, type stand. Your suggestion is intriguing. I'd be up for any solution you'd care to craft.

I recommend using a CNC router. You can laser cut glass or something more flexible and spray it with reflective paint. I made something similar but CNC routers are very expensive. but you can rip out a whole model in 15 minutes, and that's just the molds.

I know people feel it takes less talent but learning solidworks or a vector drawing program takes 5+ years ... but you can build a 100% accurate model in 10 minutes...

This will blow your mind...I work with these and they are amazing .. I sold my 3D printers after I worked with one ... this is how you can build your own WWII warbird which is on my list. You can buy one for a mere 150,000+ ... They do it all .. Welding, milling, etching,
number crunching....

CNC milled = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=371eYHQ4Nng ... How awesome is that ..totally going in my pretend Yak

If these are still available, I would need 2 of them completed, if that is possible. PM sent.

Pizzaguy, I have checked my settings and have tried to change them, to no avail. I have tried logging out, then logging in. I have made the changes and then logged out and then again logged. Still the changes have not taken effect. I have no idea what to do about this.

Send me your email in a PM. That way internet worms don’t grab it and start sending spam

Pizzaguy,
Paypal payment sent this morning with shipping info.
I have a question for you. Would this material be used to print out the front sensors for the BBI Apache? Just curious, as I am detailing on of them.
Thanks in advance,
Jack
