Panzer IV G, North Africa. wip

Post by normandy » Mon Jul 25, 2016 2:38 pm

I've started work on a 21st RC (no longer rc) Panzer IV....which I wanted in a DAK camo scheme.
There were a few changes needed in my opinion to make it convincing.

I changed the Idler Wheel to a pre J,H model.

Filled some of the holes.

Removed the RC stuff.

and changed the hinges, well set them into the turret.

Thats it for now.......

Nice job. Did you make the rear idler or does the non RC version idler work?

Get a paper punch and thin styrene sheet and cover those wheels and front drive axels.

That would look soooooo much better.

Thanks Grockwood,
The idler wheels are from shapeways, grunt1 is a member here and had them made to backdate Panzer IV's
and its variants.

If you use the shapeways wheel on a 21st RC Panzer IV, you will have to enlarge the hole to 1/4".
They made the rear axle a bit stronger and larger than the RC models. The tubular idler wheels fit on the other 21st Panzer IV's.

Great start with that project!

Several years ago, I made a DAK Panzer IV custom as well. It is basically a Panzer IV H with the turret schurzen removed and a few other small detail features added. I've included a picture below, though it now has more weathering. I didn't go the accuracy lengths you have, but feel it looks the part. The RC function on mine still works 8)

Tman, great looking Panzer IV!!

I've painted mine with a base coat of desert yellow and then with Dark yellow, both Tamiya colors.
Just wanted to cover the primer and the white styrene used to cover the road wheel hubs.
Much more to do.......

Thanks for the comments guys.
Progress is slow but moving ahead.....added hull view ports left and right front sides. I need to make the
turret view ports for the turret doors.

Not the best pic (turret is not seated)

You can see in pics 1,2 that the escape hatch between the first and second return wheels has been
ground down. For some reason 21st had this feature on their Panzer IV, it is incorrect.....it was on the
Panzer III.

Looks fantastic, Normandy! Really like your attention to all the small details to make it an accurate Panzer IVG :D
