1/18 US Army DUWK

Post by maritime96 » Wed Jan 15, 2014 10:29 pm

Hey guys wanted to share my 1/18 US Army DUKW - I got it last year from a guy in the Netherlands. When I got it was basically the body (its made of wood) and some very crude details. I completely stripped it down, sealed it and sanded it. I added the details such as the tiedowns and the ribs on the front and back of the hull. I also added the lights, a new steering wheel, repainted and decaled it. I hand made the bumpers out of burlap and added all the cargo. The great figures are courtesy of Weylen's Workshop. It came with some very weak and cheap plastic wheels that I had to replace with some stronger wheels from an old GI Joe vehicle. the center caps of those are basically the only thing I am not happy with, but I can't have it all. LOL - Thanks for looking - Enjoy

Maritime, I think you've got a very desirable and unique piece of 1:18. Another piece that the should be made
like countless others.......I guess its up to the custom builders, cause the 1:18 toy / model makers seemed to have
given up on the collectors.
Great model and you've added some nice details!

Thank for the compliments Normandy. Agree with you 100% - you and I have talked many times about all the great stuff they could make. I still say a small line with some figures and smaller cheaper vehicles, like schwimmwagens, a new Kubel and such would be a great starting point. If it caught on who knows what could happen.

The folks over at Ourwar should look into this. Their new German figures with a Schwimmwagen
would be very cool and a new Kubelwagen is defiantly need.
Now a DUWK with US troops...........oh boy sign me up.......

Yep that was my first prototype. What did you change except the ropes..?
I had three of them. Now i finally made one with the right measurements. Longer front, etc.
