Pickelhaube King Tiger kit...

Looks like a lot of work cutting off the fenders.

Thanks Matthew! Cutting the fenders wasn't bad, adding the styrene to build up the sides of the hull and then
putty was a lot of work. Its just part of model building.


One of the challenges of resin kits is warping, the longer a kit sits the more chances something is going to bend. Its not the design, its just these kits are meant to be built and not sit around.

here you can see the hull sag a bit in the center...


and not very obvious but the chassis is warped...


Its no big deal, a hot air gun or a hair dryer will soften the parts enough to get them back to the correct shape....
just adds a little more time to the build.

Wow that top hull is warped !!

Let this be a reminder don't let them linger in the box.

When I pour the top hulls I hang them from the rear radiator openings. This way the hull stays strait.

This is how the King Tiger starts out.....




It can be corrected, as I said no big deal....just a few more extra steps in the build.

Some more progress, got the chassis back in shape. Used the hot air gun and heated it up to remove the warp.
Still working on the warp in the hull.

I started some weathering at this point before the tracks get put on...




Next step...............the tracks... ...this will take some time.

This is an hours worth of work...



I just need to do this 3 more times...



It was a great idea Matthew came up with to make / cast large sections of tank tread...


...makes this part of the build move a little faster.

Really like the looks of no fenders,what paint scheme will you do?

Tracks are almost finished.....



the pins need to be cut and tracks assembled.



the two shortest tracks (with pins) in the right of the pic are for the rear return or idler wheel, the other with pins is
for the front drive wheels and the static sections of track are the upper (short) and lower (longer).



I just have to put them all together and move on to the turret.
