1/18 FW190 conversion on Finescale Modeler

Once again tons and tons of work with almost nothing to show.

The over all looks the same and the only thing that is noticeable is a new paint job.

My hat is off to this guy for the work he has done .

Some of us are crazy PH and expend that extra effort to take something already "great" and turn it into something "extraordinary". The fact that he entered that aircraft into the IPMS Internationals in Phoenix two years ago means that he is either a scale modeller drawn into XD, or an XD guy drawn into scale modelling. And I am sure we are all familiar with how detailed that scale model world can get. I applaud his work; it truly is a labor of love to do something like that, basically expending hours upon hours for just that justification of knowing you did it the way it really was and cut no corners and let know hidden detail escape your attention.

Yeah, in quite a few build write-ups I've seen the modeler say things you can't see get done because "I know its there".

80$ for a decal sheet with so many mistakes
wrong German writting and words without sences.
Bad bad quality--> Hands off if you want to do it right.

Trust me, I´m a crazy kraut

For German planes--> peddinghouse decals are the best solution

As far as I know Peddinghaus doesn't make anything like that...?

and I think there is some more failure at that decal sheet
If I get my case from Buckroo I´ll going to do a Marseille me out of the BBI Me109 with peddinghaus-decals. I´ll let you know about the quality.

Well, it's incredible when a project like this gets completed. To not run out of gas is so hard.

I would have loved to see how he got scale thickness wheels.

A wonderful model, I hope people who are 1/18 detractors get exposed to this work.

I am not a Dora fan. I am a 190A fan and a Ta 152 fan. To me, the Dora is neither one nor the other, it's like it was caught morphing. For instance, when I see a 190D I wish it were a 152C, if you know what I mean. I think the 152C just kills in the looks department.

So with my skewed Fw notions stated, I have to say I do like the look of this model! With 1/18, we can really see the presence of this plane, its details, stance, etc. I especially like the canopy, how it looks, what he did with it, what Kurt Tank did with it, and its polish.

Kudos to the builder and he should join us in the SSHQ.

Scale thickness of wheels for most all 21C aircraft have been a problem....but there is a simple, low-tech fix. Remove the wheel and seperate the two halves they glued together. Cut squares of sheet styrene in any thickness you like and remember to cut a hole in the center. Test stack the squares until you increase the thickness of the wheel/tire where you want it. Just make sure the squares are bigger than the overall diameter of the wheel. You can re-attach the two halves together using the hole in the middle to align them. When the glue is dry, simply cut and sand until the shims you glued between the two halves marries up with the diameter of the two halves. You may have to carve new tread patterns....or you can give the tire a "worn" look by sanding smooth. Paint it and enjoy it....easy.
