What to do with frosted windshield on a Huey?

Post by granch » Mon Nov 26, 2012 2:57 pm

I've seen this 21st customized model of the Huey en eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221158328752?ss ... 1423.l2649
Would be interested in this african camo for dios, but am asking if it is worth the value. The windows seem to have suffered the repaint of the whole aircraft with solvent fumes or direct sun action.
Is there a simple way to suppress this foggy appearence?
Would it be difficult to remove the front and doors windshield and replace them with PET or any clear materiel?
Advice needed before I lose too much money. Have just sold a Huey on which I've made a small repaint, wasn't satisfied with the result and sold it away 'cause I've left my Vietnam war collection. This eBay auction would be less a pity since it is allready repaint, but I don't have anough time to spent for a looong recustom.

Hard question to answer.

Many things can cause the glass / plastic to frost.

Not knowing how ,I would pass
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

he probobley sprayed dull cote or some other clear finish on it. the only way to remove it is paint thinner and that will ruin the glass. I would not get it. If I had to fix it I would have to cut out the windows very carefully and replace them with clear plastic. (Hell)

Something I've done in the past to clear up frosted clear parts is to polish them with toothepaste. Toothepaste is a very mild abrasive. Use a cotton cloth or cotton ball and rub the frosted area vigorously in a circular motion and then rinse the part off with cool water. For parts that are heavily frosted you can also try sanding them first with a very light grit sandpater and then polishing them with toothpaste. For heavily frosted parts it's not always successful though.

What would something like Future Floor Wax do? I've used it to good effect on plastic (not frosted) to cover minor scratches and shine things up.

I'm afraid it's modified not only on surface, but in the depth, so sanding or wax could'nt make it, but I'm not a plastic specialist...

You can use superglue remover to remove the fog nut you will still need to do a good bit of polishing when you are done
