USING 1/16 DECALS FOR 1/18 AIRCRAFT?

I was browsing around for some new hinomaru decals for my Sakai Zero repaint and couldn't find anything except 1/24 scale ones. So I thought about using Guillows 1/16 aircraft ones, they sale them for spare parts. So I bought 2 sets, for experimenting. Has anyone tried this before? I bought some from the Rufe kit but there 1/32, just using those on some 21st Century Zero repaints I've done. Good thing about them is they are cheap.

If you're repainting the Sakai Zero, try to find some planview drawings or photographs of mid-1942 Zeros. The hinomarus on Zeros for that timeframe were typically smaller than what is commonly modeled.

So check the Guillow's 1/16 sheet.

I have two Zeros for repainting and I think I'm going to mask and spray paint the insignia.

I ordered the 1/16th hinomarus from Guillows, waiting for them to arrive. I'll see how they look first, but I found a adjustable circle cutter from Office Max for $17 to trim them if need be.

Well, as far as the Guillows Decals go they're BIG. But I did find with the Fiskars circle cutter I got them to work in no time. With that I would suggest to anyone to get the Fiskars circle cutter to make masks for hinomarus or any projects requiring up to an 8" circle especially if you have non steady hands for making a mask. It was $18 with tax at Office Max, got mine tax fa-ree at Hickam AFB a wee bit cheaper.
