Interesting Panther tank custom idea

This is new to me. During the battle of berlin, many Panther tanks were dug into the streets, to act as improvised bunkers. I guess it was faster than building Panther stellungs out of the turrets. The hulls were without wheels or any running gear, no engines, no air intakes on the rear deck, just a steel plate and no exhausts.

There were apparently quite a number of them. Must have been a bear moving them into place....you'd need a big crane and flatbed trailer.

That would be a much more interesting use of a couple of Panther turrets I have left over from Jagdpanther conversions. Thanks for posting!

Grunt: you'd really need more than just a turret, unless you're doing a Panther stellung, which is something different.

These panthers are full hull tanks, stripped of their engines, wheels, tracks, exhausts and then dug into a shallow hole on city streets.

There were plenty of Panther stellungs too, in Berlin, so you could use your leftover turrets for those. You'd need pretty much a whole panther tank to make these dug in hull panthers, which were make shift stellungs i guess.

In the top of Normandy's pictures, that's actually the rear of the tank you're seeing. It's a bit hard to tell. It's cracked wide open by a shell hit and the turret is pointing backwards.

These are kind of interesting little gizmo's and as far as i know unique to the battle of berlin.

There's a whole thread on this in the axis forum of missing-lynx.com

I've seen panther Turms used in other places too. I think, can't remember.

I found a very, very cheap 1/72 Dragon Armor Panther (60009) on eBay with some damaged road wheels. With a bit of effort, I stripped the lower hull away from the metal upper hull and used the display case to make a mini diorama of one of these dug in panthers:
