Small Scale Military Headquarters

Not really a custom or a mod but thought I'd share for those that may be interested in a B-25. This is a styrofoam kit and Im adding some detail and figures to make a static hanging display. Been a few months in progress. Canopy and gun turrets arent glued, just set on top to give you an idea. Using 1:18 BBi and 21st figs for the inside.

Pretty sweet !!

The tail section looks like it could be some psuedo-futuristic, sky captain and the world of tomorrow-esque, stand alone fighter

what B-25 is that? did you do something to make it look so smooth? looks like plastic, not foam! Looks awesome!!!

Thanks guys. No, the foam comes that smooth. R/C has really come a long way. Thanks to Aferg, I have three now, the F-4 phantom, the F-117 and now this B-25. All three are very smooth outer skin and almost exactly 1:18. I figured no company was going to make them in plastic . I've been very pleased with all three and once they are put together, you can barely tell they are not plastic, if at all. Im really hoping to get the B-17 next but waiting for a body only version. Give one a try, for the price, you won't be sorry!

Can you post a link to the company? Are they the same as the ones who make the JU-88??

I bought it at least a year and a half ago so don't remember the link off hand. It's in the RC thread though. Aferg probably knows off the top of his head. It was in Europe I know. The directions are practically worthless but luckily I'm not installing any electrical hardware to make it fly. The kit itself is excellent quality, but there is a lot of cutting and gluing of the thin sheet plastic parts. I can see if I can dig up the company tomorrow, but Aferg is really in tune with the RC and may post it even sooner.

It looks super, if the JU-88 looks half that good Ill be very happy.

I am nearly certain that is the Flying Styro B-25. I have one myself, but they are hard to find now. I ordered mine from Hobby Lobby but they no longer list the kit. You may still be able to order one from Hobby Lobby or straight from Flying Styro.

Nice to see actual pics of the Flying Styro B-25 Kit. I almost got one last year, but was hesitant to purchase from the Cezch company. Looks perfectly scaled to the figures and now I'm tempted to try this again sometime. You did a fantastic job with those vacuform parts

Thanks Tman, you are right, this is the one from Czech and not hobby lobby. My decision to get this one was based on Aferg's recommendation but can't remember what the reason was now since that was almost 2 years ago I think. I never messed with vacuum formed parts before, you have to be slow and careful when cutting them out because some of that plastic is extremely thin, and I learned the hard way not to use regular model glue .

-- How much of what we see in those pics of the B-25 is your custom work? All of the interior? Those are your custom vacu-formed parts?

-- You say you bought direct from the manufacturer in Czech Repub.? is this B-25 available here from a US distributor?

I purchased my B-25 from Hobby Lobby several years ago, but it appears they no longer carry flying styro kits. I did some searching and I wasn't able to find any U.S. distributors. You could always contact the larger etailers like Hobby Lobby and see if they are able to get a hold of one for you. Just be aware, the B-25 they have listed on their site is from eRC and is much larger than the Flying Styro kit.

None of it is custom work, although I did have to make the back wall of the cockpit. It comes with sheets of various vacuum formed parts on them and you have to cut them out. I use a very sharp exacto and a slow hand, you don't get a second chance. I don't think there is a US distributor. If you PM Aferg, he could give you the name and link of the Czeck company. They were in the process of moving to a new location when I ordered mine awhile ago. The directions are horrible so you have to guess what some of the parts are for, kind of like a jigsaw puzzle but there is one half way decent diagram that gives you an idea. If you were going to actually install the RC components, you'd be screwed if you had no experience .

Thanks. It looks really, really good and I want one. Of course I've got so much on my plate, I'm sort of glad it's not easily available in the States ... If anyone develops a good line for ordering one, please post it here, as I might just get one and "bank" it, as I did with my Bell X-1 for so long ...

I´ve got the same kit here too. And I´m a little bit in fear about building because I´ve got no experience in those styro kits. I would really like to do a captured german version out of it. Could you describe the building (maybe some tips, hints) and please let me know what glue you´ve used.
