I got the 48th Revell kit today at hobby lobby; parts are black out of the box- is there a preference for the primer color? regular grey? none, and just spray black? Should I primer basically every part in the kit?
I primered the SR-71 kit and sprayed it black, so it may not matter-

i've never primed a plastic model in my life. Just paint it black.

Primer can be helpful, especially if you plan on doing weathering and such but don't crap yourself worrying about primer at this stage of the game. What you've been doing looks pretty good so far.

An Interesting thing I have seen some master modelers do is paint the surfaces that they are going to weather with silver first, then do the outer color, then chip away the paint to expose the aluminum. They say this method looks more authentic than painting the "chipping away" look painting the silver after the last color and on top of it.

Don't know the exact process, as I need to study it further, but it sounds logical. Though it would seem the base color of silver would have to adhere to the plastic really good to prevent it scraping away too.

I have seen modelers prime then sand down a model to decrease an over riveted look though.
The BBI Mustang is a prime candidate for this method IMO.

oK, I'll skip the primer this time-the paint on my zero looks a little thick, I'll do it differently this time

I heard the new trend is to use model master Zinc Chromate primer.

That's an ambitious job on that Corsair. The ZC looks a little yellow though. Maybe it's just the photos.

I'm wondering, did aircraft in WWII have Zinc Chromate on the outer surfaces or just in areas inside the aircraft prone to undetectable corrosion?

I would understand the need to paint corrosion resistant primer all over the aircraft bound for the Pacific however.
