1:18 BF-109G Hartmann
A quick update on my latest project. White 1 Erich Hartmann JG52 paint scheme using 1/18 Ultimate Soldier 109G. This is complete repaint including upper and lower wing surfaces and fuselage areas. So far only decals used are tail markings. Fuselage crosses, tulip design and numbers airbrushed on as well as white spiral on nose. I used my new Iwata HP-C Plus airbrush for this project and I am very happy with this airbrush. Paints used were Tamiya and Model master acrylics. I mixed RLM76 with a bit more light grey and RLM74 a bit more green. I need to do exhaust weathering and Usch decal from Jackson. I was going to use decals for fuselage crosses and number but decided to make stencils and mask these. I think it looks much better. I dropped my airbrush and messed up the needle and fluid nozzle. New ones arriving tomorrow. A few more decals arriving from Jackson including small ones and underwing crosses and I hope to be done soon. I also have antenna and ring antenna made and will install them.

That looks simply fantastic
While I have no complaints on any of the paint schemes that 21c selected for their '109G tooling, the fact that they never did Hartmann's aircraft in the above scheme always puzzled me. Again, your's looks great!

Looks great gliderdwn.
Nice job with the airbrush.Always better to paint the markings if you can.
As Tman has said, not sure why 21C never did Hartmann's 109?
Highest scoring ace of WWII, and a cool scheme as well.
Looking forward to seeing this when it is finished.
Great choice.

Very nice job.
Re: 1:18 BF-109G Hartmann
Update on the 109G.
I have built and installed antenna, antenna loop and tail tab for wire. I added some exhaust weathering using black, brown and layering. Added nice Usch decal from Jackson. Painted prop blades dark green-black. I need a few more decals and than dull cote to seal.

Update on progress of Hartmann 109G. Basically finished with repaint. Finished plane with dullcote. Added smoke trails with top guns and added holes to barrell and painted black. Decided to put new head on pilot with blond hair and I found cap that resembles 1000 mission flight cap from picture in the book Blonde Knight of Germany. Cap was white so I painted in Luftwaffe blue. Added underwing decals and minor decals thanks to Jackson. Great quality with these.

Looks great gliderdwm.
Still don't know why 21C never did this scheme?

Awesome job
I love how you did the correct antennas, and of course the overall excellent paint work. Why 21c never did that is a mystery.

Re: 1:18 BF-109G Hartmann
Thanks for the nice comments.
I still need to run antenna from front to the tail spot. I drilled tiny hole in the tail antenna I made to run the wire through. I made the loop antenna buy shaping piece of resin as the base, drilled 2 tiny holes and ran real wire through the holes. I am going to modify the landing gear so they are not so straight up and down. Best way I see doing this is to modify the spring loaded arm so the main strut sits in a different postion on the arm. More spread out like the 109E Ultimate Soldier is. Has anybody attempted this?

Re: 1:18 BF-109G Hartmann
Yes, I did on the first 21c Bf-109G that I owned. Following instructions and a little video that were once posted on the 21c Area21 FanClub site, I simply cut the tabs on the spring-loaded arm to the desired length using a wire clipper and then sanded to smooth out the cut. it worked well.gliderdwm wrote:Thanks for the nice comments.

The same effect can also be generated by simply not locking the arms in place and pushing the arm to the base of the little slot it fits in on the landing gear strut.

Re: 1:18 BF-109G Hartmann
Hey T- Yes I remember that now...ya really don't have to modify just spread gear past locking point and wedge...but the mod works best I think..either way...very good...hope all is well Trist...ld

Re: 1:18 BF-109G Hartmann
I understand about the spring loaded arm and not using the area intended but go past and use that area. I notice that there is some slippage so I wll simply make new area on the arm to hold the strut in place. Question now is eaxactly how much slant to make the landing gear. Need to do some research and than will post picture of finished model.
