Small Scale Military Headquarters

I bought a can of Testors brand, flat OD paint and used it on some parts.
To my surprise and disappointment, the paint turned out to be much lighter and even a somewhat different hue from the cap of the paint can (which is what I used as a gauge in choosing that color).

Is this typical of model spray paints? Or are there other brands that are more accurate between the color on the can and the actual results?

Yes, I shook the can thoroughly before I sprayed....

I have found that Tamiya paints do a very good job of matching the produced 1/18 items. The IJN green/grey, the German AC light blue, and RAF dark green all are very similar to what has been produced. Now I have only used the rattle cans (which is what the link is for), but I know that they even make a larger variety in the airbrush paints. I get all of my Tamiya paints from Ebay, because the local hobby shops don't carry the full line of historical paints. If you look carefully at all the listings the price isn't too painful, and you can usually find one that will combine shipping to lower the cost even more.

Here is a photo sample. I did not paint the drop tank or drop tank mount/base. I painted the underside of the aircraft with the Tamiya AS-5 Light Blue (Luftewaffe)
