(Slightly) Detailing the HL Jagdpanther

Post by GooglyDoogly » Sun Dec 27, 2009 9:25 pm

Using left-over PE from my KT and Panther builds, I decided to put little details on my HL Jagdpanther. I couldn't decide which scheme to create, so I decided to model one of the last Jagdpanthers built. This was the 7 Jagdpanthers commandeered by Kampfgruppe Wiking on April 7th, 1945 directly from MNH after being told by civilian workers of the factory that there were 7 newly-made tanks in the factory just sitting around there. These Jagdpanthers were fresh off the factory, with no optics, ammo, or fuel. The men of the kampfgruppe had to scrounge for the necessary materials to get these tank destroyers into action the very next day.

They participated in the battle for Hannover, and considering the size of the Kampfgruppe, (about 100 men, 7 Jagdpanthers, a bergepanzer, and several SPWs) they gave the U.S. forces a bit of a headache.

First thing I did was to replace the HL muzzle break. It's far too small, since they used the muzzle break of the Stug. I was going to replace the barrel as well, but I decided to keep it, since I kinda like keeping the airsoft function.

Late production Jagdpanther G2s' tools were placed in the back, instead of the sides. Foliage loops were installed on some Jagdpanthers (and some Panthers and King Tigers). I don't know whether the Kampfgruppe Wiking Jagdpanthers had them, but I like the look of them. :D

I built a jack block holder out of PE sprues. I'm not gonna put a jack block in it. I also made some spare track holders.

Also installed some grab handles inside the hatch covers.

Detailed the mount of the aerial container as well, so it wouldn't look like it was just floating there.

Tool clamp for the shovel. Still not sure whether it would be better to just leave to shovel off.

More tool clamps on the rear deck.

After further reading, it was under the consensus that these last MNH Jagdpanthers were painted in overall Dunkelgelb, with no markings at all (maybe just balkenkreuze). Don't know if I like that, so I might end up choosing a different unit. Maybe Panzer Lehr.

8) Those tool clamps are really nice, they look like they'll actually work!

How much smaller was the HL muzzle brake? Any chance it would work on a 1/18 jagdpanzer?
