remove gloss finish on Vexillarius decals?

I once read in a model book that one can remove the gloss finish on a decal by gently rubbing it with a pencil eraser before soaking the decal in water.
Can a pencil eraser remove the gloss finish on a Vexillarius decal instead of using Mircoflat?

God no, don't rub it with an eraser. Where did you read that? You'll simply rub the actual decal off, or fraying it to uselessness.

Absolutely NOT!!!!! If it's a flat finish you want, apply thin coats of clear flat over it after the decal has dried and cured completely.

Pencil erasers work well for removing decals. I have used them successfully for that. Microflat or dullcote will help to remove the gloss.

GUYS:

Thanks for the info.
I read the eraser info in a book from Aurora models when I was a kid.

I asked the question here because after reading about Vexillarius decals, they aren't the same as the ones in models kits so I thought erasing them might damage the decals.
