well, i'm going to try out my first attempt at modding some figures in 1:18. i've been dying to have russians to battle my germans on the eastern front and now that i've found and ordered correct headgear, i just have to figure out which bodies to use. i've got some IJ russians but they might be a little too small for the XD figures. i've seen people suggesting star wars figures as well that i'm gonna look into. another idea i had was to use some of those extra XD japs that i picked up cheap on ebay. i'll have to take a better look at them. can use some of the overcoats from the bob XD figs and will just look around my collection to find some good bodies. only thing left is the weapons.....i've got 2 ppsh41, the one from gijoe redstar and 1 homemade one, homemade ptrd, and might be working on a dp27. all i need is some rifles. don't want to use the german k98s, but i think the rifles from the XD japs have might be a closer fit to a mosin.

anyway, once i get started up i'll post some pics for feedback. :D

the IJ russians aren't bad. Ironically, they are more 1/18 scale than the XD figures, which are notoriously a bit over scale.

Where did you get the headgear? I have searched high and low and no luck.

i found this website that showed a ton of gijoe figures which there was a whole series of russians that had ww2 era hats.
http://www.guru-planet.com/index.html

i ended up ordering just heads from this site that CENT-ONE suggested: http://www.brokenarrowtoys.com/cart/index.php also picked up some hats that might work for NVA/vietcong troops.

i bought these for ruskies:

Whats with that hat balanced on the tip of the womans head? Anyway, those winter ruskie hats like that one are the ones I want. Its odd that I have looked at lots of sites and although some of them have hundreds of heads, caps, and helmets, there are no WWII items. Tri-Gate Creations had exactly what I wanted except their mold for that ruskie hat is apparently no longer useable. Think I might try that 3rd head in your post with the field cap with star. Could be good for summer ruskie tank riders.

i think i'm planning on making the first batch of russians for a winter battle, maybe stalingrad so they'll get the winter hats mostly. maybe a smolesk battle with figures using the caps mostly.
