Another paint question

Post by gburch » Wed May 06, 2009 6:36 am

I have the BBI Corsair (Daisy June) and think it's awesome. That opinion was strengthened when I received a 21C Corsair that I picked up used/displayed/no-box off of eBay. While the weathering on the white underside is quite nice, the "weathering" done with the silver paint -- presumably intended to simulate where the main colors have worn off -- looks TERRIBLE in my opinion.

I'm sure I'll try to repaint this model eventually. I can't see completely stripping it first. Rather, I'd like to be able to just mask what I don't want to paint and do a coat over the existing paint. Which leads to the question -- What kind of paint is this? Lacquer? Enamel? Acrylic?

In doing the little bit of customizing I've attempted on the 1/18 stuff I've acquired so far, I've encountered some paint that must be acrylic -- since it's not compatible with the enamel I use -- and some that must be enamel or lacquer, since it is compatible with enamel.

Any help will be appreciated.
