Has anyone tried to fabricate a trop filter for the Spitfire?

No not me. But it does not look that hard to do.

Sure. Not hard for you. I'm borderline inept. :P

a tropical spitfire would be a great custom kit for pH to offer. Trouble is spitfires are so hard to find and expensive. I'm hoping bbi or AT make a (later model) spit, now that we know the 21c molds have been destroyed, as there is certainly a demand for one.

Spitfires also used another type of tropical filter, the abouki filter, or something like that. It was less common but would probably be far easier to make. If i can get the name right it would be easy to look up.

Somebody will know what i'm talking about....

Clip the wingtips too......will look sooo sweet. ;)

The molds were destroyed? Damn!

If someone comes out with a new Spit, hopefully it's not too advanced. It's bad enough the P-38 is too late for North Africa.

I was close.......aboukir filter.

You really need a mk V spitfire, to do a proper tropcial spit. But the mk I isnt' that far off. A longer pointier spinner would be a nice touch.

I imagine if we do see a spitfire by somebody else it will be a mk V or Mk IX (or hopefully both). Dare i dream we'll see a Griffon engined mk XIV someday..

This is on the list of mods I figure I can manage on my own. Along with wing armament changes. I haven't decided if I want to do a B wing or a C wing.

Aboukir filter huh? That looks like a distinct possibility. Thanks Aferg! :D

As for the 21C Spit, the exhaust points towards it being a Mk II. It's nearly identical to the Mk V's exhaust.

This is kind of neat. It's a Spit sent to the US for evaluation. A Mk V with short spinner hub.

I was actually thinking of doing just this. a few years back. Trop filter w/clipped wings . But lack of Spits shut me down and who wants to mess up there spit because they are now collectors items ?

Then I thought why not cast 21st's whole spitfire with the clipped wings and trop filter ? Wings and all. Would I get in trouble if I do this ?

Considering they are not going to make another one and I altered the original would this be legal ? If I stated " copied from original 21st model" would this cover me and keep me out of the poor house / jail ?

Hmmm... interesting. Is TKO still hanging around here? Maybe he could assist with that question.

Just make sure you remove the 21C markings before you cast. 8)
