SPITFIRE REPAINT COMPLETED 4-5-09

Well my old post included a PH Zero, but I thought that I would break away and have this one just for the Spitfire. I will go through a few progress pics and then the updated pics. This is where I will add the disclaimer. I am doing a pure custom which means the paint scheme does not match the Spitfire Mark I (historically). Also, this is my first repaint and I am using rattle cans, but all in all I am happy with the results. My future plans include laying the custom decals and dullcoat finish, installation of the gun barrels, and the completion of the custom landing gear (because one was broken). There will be more to come. Enjoy.......

I AM STILL LOOKING FOR THE SLIDING SECTION OF THE CANOPY, BECAUSE THIS ONE DIDN'T COME WITH ONE. SO IF YOU OR SOME ONE YOU KNOW HAS A PARTS PLANE.... I AM INTERESTED...

THANKS, KRIS

I resized the marking lights, because the factory one looked like a growth on the wing ends

I even relocated the gun ports and will add gun barrels later

Very neat. I'm thinking of acquiring a Spit for a North Africa repaint. This thread will definitely come in handy. 8)

Here is the link to my photo album. In it are some side shot images of USAAF Spitfires. I believe that they are from Italy and not Africa and I think they are all Mark Vs or later (not the Mark I like the 21st Century model).

I am very glad to have gotten both of these planes. I tried to match the PH Zero paint, but I had no success. I now have paid way to much to get a Tamiya spray can of IJN Grey/Green shipped in from Hong Kong (Ebay), but I had no other choice. I just hope that the paint matches.

I hope to have the decal paper in a couple of days and within two weeks to have the decals on the Spitfire.

Hopefully more to come........

Applied the homemade decals last night and sprayed with matt finish today. I couldn't get the white nose art name decal to come out right, but that can always be added later. In one photo you can see the landing gear that I am fabricating. Also, there are some good shots of the reshaped wing tip marking lights. I still have to install the gun barrels and glue the wings back together. I think for my first custom that every thing is going fairly well. Enjoy.....

Well here are the pictures of the completed Spitfire in USA markings. I didn't have to make the landing gear thanks to a timely auction by Aviatornut. The landing gear was not the one I needed, but I was able to cut, spin, and secure the pivot so the gear works without any problems and looks authentic. The gun barrels were lined up with the gun bays and I used aluminum tubing for a more accurate look. As with all of my posts on this thread, I still need the slide part of the canopy if anyone has Spitfire parts for sale....

Screw covers are drying and will be applied soon.

It was missing when I bought the damaged plane from the Bay. I was too into the other aspects that I didn't even think about it. Maybe something to follow up on.

Nice repaint! I am crawling back out from my shell after burning out of my own repaint projects. I just completed a new F-104.

I am out of Spitfire planes and yours has me inspired to do another repaint. Perhaps a US version like yours.

THANKS FOR ALL OF THE GREAT COMMENTS.

With this being my first repaint, I learned a few tricks. I will try to get some more planes to repaint, but I will have to be able to buy them at the right cost. Anyway it was fun and I am glad that it turned out well. :D
