M4A3E8 76mm Sherman "Easy-Eight"

Post by GooglyDoogly » Thu Feb 12, 2009 3:52 pm

Finally finished my Easy-Eight, the final WWII version of the Sherman. All I need to do is tweak the stowage gear setup, but she's pretty much done.

I up-armored my Sherman as well.

And the exhaust-deflector, also from Nick.

Once I buy some scale ropes and wires from etoarmour, she'll finally be 100% complete!

Outstanding work as usual!

Is that Nick Aguilar's Resin T23 Turret kit?
I really like the extra armor plate...there is a shot in the book "M4 Sherman at War" pg. 6 of a M4A3(76)W HVSS with the additional plate to off set pesky German AP that is a spitin image of your sheman.

Are you going to add the foul weather canvas surround on the mantlet?
The sign of a great model is that one’s eye is not drawn to any one feature, yet one can study it for hours and continually find something new.

Thanks guys. :) Aferg, yep it's the old Tamiya kit with aftermarket conversion for the 76mm HVSS. :)

Yoxford, yeppers that's the T-23 turret I told you about. I gotta get that book as well. I used Modelling the US Army M4 (76mm) Sherman Medium Tank by Steven Zaloga for reference pics and for inspiration. :D

I thought about adding the canvas on the mantlet, but I read that its actually quite rare for WWII US tanks to have those, but they're a lot more common during the Korean War.

That's why I opted not to put one on my Pershing as well, despite the fact I already put the mounting brackets for the canvas already.

Very well done. I had hoped that BBI would some day make a Sherman with the T-23 turret but don't see it happing. The additional armour on the front reminds me of the Jumbo Shermans. I alway wondered how much more effective the Jumbo would have been with the "Easy Eight" suspension and plenty of Hyper Velocity rounds.
