What to use for winter whitewash?

Post by hotrodrock » Tue Dec 30, 2008 8:15 pm

I want to do a winter whitewash on a green 1/16 Trumpeter T-34. The majority of 1:1 photos I have seen looks like the crew put it on with paint brushs, in other words, pretty sloppy looking. No sprayed on look. Anyone have any tips on doing a good whitewash look?

This months Fine Scale Modeler . Has a photo in there gallery were a guy painted the base color in enamel. He let it dry for a couple of days and then used arylic paint as a white wash and then he sprayed Windex on it and wiped it with rags or paper towels. I guess the Windex ate the arylic enough so you can wipe it down as thin as you want to go.
This is worth a try but you need to experament first.
Kirk Douglas : Mine hit the ground first
John Wayne : Mine was taller

Mix white chalk and water. Thats what I did to whitewash my german helmet for a reenactment, and I think I remember someone telling me thats what they used

I just used enamel dry-brushed onto the surface, but this was on 1/35 and 1/32 scale. It turned out pretty darn good for a quick job. It looks like a crew applied a varying level of paint and half-assed it, just like it should be.
