1:18 Ohka Kamikaze Jet

Post by tko211 » Sun Dec 28, 2008 11:37 pm

Working on my next project this past weekend, snowed in at my parents house for the Christmas holiday.

1:18 scale Japanese Ohka. I have used the following in the raw material build: F-16 Fuel tanks, V-1 Buzz bomb, Me-262, some aluminum pipe, styrene and 2 elevators from a Zero! = one expensive list of parts salvaged from perfectly good aircraft. (I am NEVER doing one of these again!)

As you can see I have been sawing, hacking, gluing and sanding to fuse these parts together into something that half looks like a Japanese Ohka flying bomb. I plan later this coming week to affix the canopy sharpen a few things, add some details and then paint. I have a whole new appreciation for people like VMF, pickelhabue, and others who make scratch build planes. WAY too many hours and skill involved. (I am used to doing repaints in hours) So far I have 2 full days to this point and still expect another 2 days to finish! I think I will commission these kinds of things in the future!

I am going to finish this one quick and get on with my life. LOL

Pegasus is coming out with one next month...

Just kidding.....great job. Worth the effort you've put into it. Now you need to make a Betty to carry it.

Nice job! I've been building one of these for a while as a side project. Do you have anything in mind with the spare parts?

Well the Fuel tanks from the F-16 are all used up. The Buzz bomb is missing the wings, rear stabs, nose. So not much left of that one either.

The 262 is missing the canopy, instrument panel, seat, rear stabs and elevators.

The Zero is only missing it's elevators... so far.

Haven't decided what to do about the zero. The 262 in my opinion is scrapped. Gonna order up another one of those along with the V1 later this week. These are just a few of the reasons I have decided to NEVER do this again! LOL

Nice work! This has been another one of those "I wish we had a **** in 1:18th". I may be interested in the 262 carcass......

Nice use of parts. I started one with the Rufe then got too busy making Rufe parts. I just have to finish the wings on mine & the rocket tubes and warhead.

I see some possibilities with the leftovers of the 262. A Kikka maybe?

I noticed this is an old post, but Pickelhaube made me some really nice stabilizers for my Zero.
If you are still needing these, you may want to check with him.

It's still unfinished. :( Its assembled, primed and base coat painted. I had hoped to have the canopy slide open and shut but in the end it just didn't work out well. So it's totally a static model now. I misplaced a rear section of the canopy so I need to resolve that some how. It's further along than you see in the earlier photos!
