There has been alot of talk on how to scale stuff up and down in size. Well I am not sure if anbody has talked about this but I have had an epiphany on scaling.
Forget about standard measurements. 1/16" and 1/8" forget about it. The true esiest way is to measure things in mm. The metric system is actually easier to measure because it is done in 10's. You have 10 fingers and 10 toes (most of us ) so if you get in a jamb you can look at your fingers and not get lost.
Most scales are 1/32 , 1/35 and 1/48. Forget about 1/72 or 1/76. That stuff is way too small and not that exact. So Here is a conversion chart that you can use to enlarge a subject to 1/18 th scale. I guess you can reverse the chart to make things to smaller scale. But why ?
Conversion chart :
1/32 scale multiply by 1.777 photo enlarge use 177 %
1/35 scale multiply by 1.944 photo enlarge use 194 %
1/48 scale multiply by 2.66 photo enlarge use 266 %
OK say you are trying to measure a barrel length on a Sherman tank. Using a 1/35 scale model. The barrel measures 37 mm.
Use the 37 then multiply by 1.944 . That is 37 X 1.944 = 71.928 . So the barrel on you your Sherman should be 71.928 mms long. So about 72 mm long. I usually round up .
It is that easy.
