1/32 Custom Woes

Post by Der Kommandant » Tue Sep 30, 2008 8:21 pm

Now that Target ditched FoV, on the most part, for elusive 21c vehicles, a humble modeller won't be able to acquire relatively inexpensive tanks for a modding project (I'm talking about 1/32 specifically). TRU has some left-over Stugs and Stuarts, but where are the Shermans? Where are the Grants? Sad to say, the tanks we want to mod the most are those that are the most expensive: Panthers, Panzers, Tigers, at 50 bucks a pop. Doesn't anyone miss the olden days of readily available, highly moddible tanks?

I got a S1 Tiger FOV I'll part with, to make room for more 1/35 on the shelf.

Target ditching FOV for 21c? I wish that were true to an extent, but as the 21c stuff remains non-existent, it is not a good move. All six of the Targets in my town (as well as a number I visited elsewhere) had plenty of FOV and no sign of the 21c items.

All the targets in the Seattle area and Spokane,Eastern Washington and northern Idaho still have FOV items in 1/18,1/32 & 1/72,no 21century toys at this time, but i keep watching!

Targets here still have FOV and the 21st in 1/32nd scale. I saw a M3 Lee this weekend at one of the Targets and it wasn't there before. So they must still be restocking FOV.

Wow. I really don't care for 21c at Target that much, in that one Marder and one Mustang is enough. Good to hear some members are still getting FoV though; the restock/ditch effort around SF is leaving collectors in a quagmire! Decades-old StuGs with riders, Paladins that should be put out of their misery. Didn't they used to have weathered actions series? Like those M1's and Bradleys that came weathered? And stock King Tigers? Nice to hear some Lees are still around!

I never saw any King Tigers at Target, but I did saw one at TRU, it was high up on the ceiling shelf. I couldn't see it or get it, so I left it there thinking no one would see it and it would still be there when I return for it. Boy was I wrong, by the time I came back, it was long gone!
Lucky, I did find a very rare weathered Desert Storm Bradley last Christmas and bought it.

As for 21CT stuff, out of 15 Targets in the LA area, only 2 have 21CT, but they are technically more like OC area than LA.

Yeah, those unweathered S1 King Tigers were pretty rare. I passed up on an unweathered S1 Tiger I too . Very interesting, the Desert Storm vehicles that were weathered. I have the Bradley, and must say that the weathering on it is far, far superior to the first edition weathering, even though it was enthusiast. Must be an aborted re-issue.

The Targets in Northern, CA only have FOV and no 21st stuff. In fact, I don't ever recall seeing any 21st items at any of the Targets in my AO.

Well, at least now I don't feel so alone with a majority of the Targets in California (or so it seems) NOT having the 21c items  Kind of makes me sick when I think about how in other areas of the country, people were finding tons of this stuff at their local Target stores and finding it at more than one store in their area in some cases...
