Here are a few pics of some of the more unusual items in my collection. All are 1/18 (of course).

[img][/img]

This is a Hawker Typhoon wood custom i commissioned a couple of years ago. Solid wood. Looks quite nice i think. I added the rockets myself.

[img] [/img]

another picture of the mighty Typhoon

[img][/img]

This is an Italian SM-79 i had made last year. Also solid wood. I added the guns and a gunner figure which you can't quite see. About 3 feet long by 4 foot span.....weighs a TON

[img] [/img]

This is a Flying Styro A-7 Corsair. It's closer to 1/20 than 1/18. For some reason they made the obscure two seat version of the Corsair, so i covered it up by having the pilot ejecting. :)

[img][/img]

I made this Elefant out of a scaled up paper model kit. Gun barrel from a Tiger. I lengthened the barrel with a pen shaft. The big rivets i made from the tips of markers. Unfortunately, the ink bleeds through in the humidity (they were water soluable markers). You can see some funky colours on it. I have to go back and touch it up again, when summer is over.

[img] [/img]

Another paper model i scaled up. A Russian KV-2. This was my first paper model. I used tracks from a tiger. They weren't quite right but the best i had.

[img] [/img]

One of my favourites. A Polish PZL P-11c that i had commissioned about 3 years ago. Solid wood again. I added a clear plastic windscreen, pilot figure and some blazing guns. It's shooting at my S1 Stuka (which is from the Polish campaign btw).

[img] [/img]

My custom Long Tom with bulldozer towing it. I made the Long Tom from a PTE Howitzer. Not a great picture and i just noticed it needs a good dusting....lol. In the left of the picture you can see an Italian Breda 35 20mm anti aircraft gun i made.

[img] [/img]

My first major custom i attempted. A british 4.5 inch howitzer in north africa colours. I made it about 6 years ago out of bits and pieces.

[img][/img]

And last but not least an Italian Reggiane 2005. Another wood model i commissioned many years ago.

looking at the pictures some of them look a lot dustier than they really are.....must be glare from the flash or something. I stink at photograpy.

Thanks to VMF115 for his how to post pictures guide. Was a piece of cake.

Love that Tempest!
I think it's the rockets that make the pic.

Pic #5 has a bit of humor attached to it...

Star Trek II: The Wrath of the Rhineland
You Nazi B@st@rds... you killed my son!!!

Is that a pack of baby Gorn running past Kirk?

it's a Typhoon, not a Tempest and it's Picard not Kirk and those are coelophysis, not Gorn.

All I have to say is WOW! :D  :D

Those rockets coming off the Typhoon are tremedous but looking at how you painted up what I am assuming is cotton painted to look like an explosion is tremendous!!! Can you give us a tutorial?

not sure if you're referring to the muzzle blast from the kv2 or the flames in the left corner of that same picture?

The muzzle blast is cotton painted a variety of colours from spray cans...just a bit here a bit there until it looks right. Actually looks much better in person; the colours are off in the picture and the texture is less noticeable in person.

If you're referring to the flames in the corner of the picture that is actually flame from a flame thrower. I made a german WWI flame thrower team (they worked in pairs). The flame is actually made from toilet paper soaked in white glue and sculpted to shape over a wire armature. I then spray painted it all yellow, then hi-lited with orange, red and finally black. Fairly simple to do and looks pretty good when done. Nice and strong too.

Aferg,
Can you post some pics of your projectile launching items you have made and have been telling us about?

ok here are a few pics of figures i've done; beginning with the ones that have working features.

[img] [/img]

My working mortar. It's based on a german nebelwerfer 35 10cm mortar, which was basically a scaled up 8cm mortar. They were used early in the war for making smoke screens, much like the US 4 inch mortar but after the 6 barrel nebelwerfer came out production stopped and the remainder were used as conventional mortars. I had to make it this big so the spring mechanism would fit inside the barrel. The little 'rounds' are in the box, they are the tips of small syringes. They can shoot about 15 feet, with an arc of about 6 feet or so.

[img] [/img]

This is my shooting panzerfaust. The mechanism for shooting is inside the 'smoke'...i can just reach in and pull back the little plunger. A spring loaded ramrod fires the panzerfaust round out of the front by striking it from behind, inside the tube of the panzerfaust. Goes about 9 feet. I forgot to take a picture of the round but it's just a panzerfaust warhead, with a half inch long tail that fits inside the launch tube.....looks just like a real panzerfaust warhead but without the pop out stabilizing fins.

[img] [/img]

My grenade throwing german. A star wars toy with working saber slash action reposed and made to look like a german. Can throw his little stick grenade up to 2 feet by squeezing the legs.

[img] [/img]

Another shot of him.

[img][/img]

My second custom. A german soldier in Russia, winter of 1941. I got the idea from a picture i saw. He is leaning against a tree, with a blanket over his legs.

[img][/img]

Another early custom......a couple of elderly Volkssturm from April 1945.

[img] [/img]

A hitler youth inspired by the movie Downfall. I made him from a star wars young anakin skywalker figure. The hat came from the underscale kubelwagen driver.

[img][/img]

A wwi French soldier, made out of bits and pieces of star wars figures. I didn't have much else to work with when i made him several years ago. The helmet was made from a chap mei construction worker's helmet.

[img] [/img]

Banzai charge!

Some of the pics are blurry...not sure why as the camera is supposed to have auto focus. And i'm still getting that dusty glow on some of them........maybe i shouldn't be using the flash?

Aferg, Very Cool Stuff!! The Typhoon with the rockets looks fantastic. There was an article in Fine Scale Modeler a few years back...the guy did a ME-163 taking off, he used cotton and painted it like you did in some of the other pics.
The Elefant and KV-2 look great as do your figures. Good Stuff.........More Please.
Oh and Pickelhaube I damn near fell over I was laughing so hard.

Your customs are amazing, aferguson - simply bloody amazing.

The Tiffie and the SM-79 look great. I would imagine that both of them weigh quite a bit - the Tiffie isn't a small plane. I love what you've done with the rockets - it's good to see it doing what what it did best instead of just sitting up there collecting dust. Those must have cost you a pretty penny.

The Volksturm and the winter machine gunner are great display pieces as well.

Thanks for the info aferg. Don't be upset but I am more impressed with that than I am your other wonderful custom stuff. Your Frenchman looks :D !
