Here is the latest done. Wing tips pieces have been completed. Radiator scoop on the wing bottom. I have pulled a few vacuformed canopies and I am unhappy with them. They are kind of flimsy and there is no way for them to operate. So I am in the process of making resin frames and I will rework the plugs so the the vacuform will fit under the frames. This will do a few things. It will make the frame a little more rigid. The canopy will operate like it should and the frames will be easier to paint with out masking.

Here are the frames that I have started to cut out. Not for the faint of heart. They kind of look like bones.

Outstanding...you sir are the Michelangelo of 1/18th scale.

I gotta hand it to you. That is some serious custom work there. I feel like I have my hands full just to repaint a plane. I can't imagine having the patience and skill to craft new parts like that. Kudos

Thanks alot guys. It means alot to me considering the time that goes into these customs. Work got busy this week so I will try to get the frames cut out this weekend and get this wraped up. I will cast the frames make new plugs for the glass and make molds of the landing gear and the wing tips and this custom should be done.

There are a few other things that will make this a D/G one is the twin guns in the rear and the single stab strengthening bar. I am not sure if I will do the twin gun. I am on the fence on this . As far as the stab bar it is an easy fix with a thin piece of styreen that this will take just seconds to do.

All right for the most part I am done with the Stuka parts. I think the frame idea will work fine. They look good with the vacuform plastic under it. I did not like the way the vacumme plastiv only worked . I have made a few copies and they came out pretty nice. The resin between the frames is paper thin and real easy to cut out with an x acto. All I have to do now is mold the wing tips and under wing radiators and this custom project is done . I will go ahead and do the Rudels winter and standard liveries with the cannons on both. The parts will be available to those who wants them.

Here is the shot of the vacume canopy only. This will work but it will be hard to make it funtion. Opening and closeing.

That's some awesome work pickelhaube, I've been thinking about looking into this vacuuform stuff, making all my custom parts by hand is not only tedious, but dangerous sometimes. I just read Rudel's book, Stuka Pilot, and it's amazing that dude lived through the war with all he went through.

Thanks guys. What do you all think of the canopy frames? I think they look a tad chunky. When I cast them they came out thicker. They can be thinned out with not too much difficulty. But they are more robust in this form. Resin is not as strong as injected molded plastic.

I did another moch up . I did not mention this before but I choped the cowling scoop. I cut about 3/16 off of it. I also thinned out the canopy frames and it looks like a Stuka D/G to me.

This is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! One hellacious conversion, and done with outstanding precision. I love tank busters, and you sir, take the cake on the mean look of this machine.

pickelhaube,

I echo Kamikaze's thoughts.
Great build, incredible canopy.
Really like the cannons, too.

I am following your progress on this one
