Small Scale Military Headquarters

I'm looking for a flat dark brown paint to dab on the side of my 1/18 Sherman to simulate dark dirt and also to paint the tool handles.

Does Testors have such a flat paint? If so, what is the bottle number?

Not sure if this helps, but I have and use the following flat browns:

1167 Flat Tan

1166 Flat Brown

1183 Rubber

1185 Rust

And recently picked up (have not used yet) a multipack, number 9121 Aircraft Finishing Set I think, of enamels that includes a #1742 Dark Tan. However, that one doesn't specifically state that it's flat. I'll try to remember to post back here once I know for certain.

Pick up some cheap acrylics at Michaels crafts for $.49 each and mix a shade to your hearts content. Looks great, less filling and easily cleaned off if you overdo it.

Another question: Have any of you painted the Sherman cannon barrel tip in flat black? (I've seen a number of customized Sherman photos on SSHQ and none had a black-tipped cannon).

Why would you want to?

That's a really informative article. All my other tanks models (21st Century and FOV) came with blackened cannons, so I was wondering about customized tanks.

I have found Valleijo US Field Drab works well as moist earth / mud. I liked the color so much and was going through so much of it, I took it to Lowes and had them paint match the color with a good water based indoor paint. Turned out great and only cost me like 6 bucks for a small can (enough to fill my $3.00 Valleijo bottle about 50 times)
