My Nam customs "Loach update"

Hi all I am a newbie here on the boards but just wanted to post some pics of what I am working on.

Since getting the newer Platoon figures I have been building up a small army like crazy. All pics are just works in progress. I haven't painted or addressed any scale issues yet. This is pretty much kit-bash work for the moment.

Plans are for more troops including VC and NVA. I have a M113 APC (RC Version) and AH-6 on the way for full on customizing to this era. I am going to try and match the AH-6 to the gunship in Apocalypse Now. I also am working a deal with a fellow collector on the 1/18 scale Huey. So I have my hands full.

I have been customizing Star Wars stuff for about three years and I have always admired the military customs but the Platoon figures pushed me over the edge.

I would also like to say I have been reading through these boards and there is quite the talent pool here. Any advice on paint colors and anything else is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking and enjoy the pics.

Nice customs man! Love the tiger camo. Looks fantastic! The variety in combat gear in Vietnam, as you had to adapt to everything, really showed the guerilla side of the US Army.

Those "Tiger cammo" figures are actual 21c figures, pretty much in stock condition 8) It is the Navy Seal figure which was one of the rarest carded figures from the S1 Vietnam line from back in 2001-2002. It can (or at least did) command big bucks on ebay in carded condition. The figure also came with the first version of the Navy Seal Tactical Vehicle (Mutt) that was sold at most small retailers. SmallJoes.com currently has the Navy Seal figure on clearance for around $7.00 and you get a free Tactical Vehicle along with it

That is correct. My painting skills are good but no match for the job on the 21c Seals. I did get these two from Smalljoes with the Jeep on clearance. I think its one of the best buys on the web at the moment. You get one HTF figure with acc., a jeep, two M-60's plus a stinger missle launcher not bad for $7 something.

Just a little update on some of what I have been doin'

I am in the midst of converting a "littlebird" into a OH-6 "loach" scout helicopter to fit in with my Vietnam era dio I am working on.

Still a lot left to do but this is the general direction I am heading. I decided to paint the bottom of the bubble green because I felt that it may have been possible for some pilots to slap some sheet metal over busted out canopies to protect from gunfire. I found some refernce pics where these little choopers had the glass knocked out from flying in so close to the treetops.

Anyway enjoy and hopefully I can find some more time to at least wrap this one up.

BTW any links to some graphics I might could print into some decals.
