Backdrops for indoors * with pictures !!!

It has come to my attention that the indoor shots I take have cheesey if any backdrop behind them, so I did some research into finding some nice affordable backdrops. What I came up with is some of the train modeling backdrops by Walthers. They are sectional and come in 24"x36" panels. Actually, they are like painting prints and I will be mounting them to 2'x3' pieces of foamcore, then placing them behind my make-shift diorama tables in the office. I don't have any pictures of them yet, but will later tonight or tomorrow ;) I think I will be using spray adhesive to secure them to the foamcore. Each print runs about $9 and is much more affordable than blowing up pictures to say 12x18 inches. I bought 2 cases of foamcore from Michaels craft store when they were on sale for $1 or so a sheet :) I also bought some trees at the hobby store which is the more expensive material to use in my scenes  As for other scenery items, I will go out to the "wooded" area around here and gather some twigs and sticks, then find some smaller rocks and stones to use too. Should be a nice outcome in the long run :) Da General

I would love to see some pics of these backdrops General, please do post some when you have a chance. 8) This is an idea I have toyed with for a long time but was never able to come up with reasonable and cost effective solution. MTS sells battle scene backgrounds in different scales from an outfit called Kullisen, but they are pricey and it's difficult to judge the image quality from the tiny little thumbnail images available, so I passed on these. Look forward to seeing some of your backgrounds.

Hang in there Guys and gals
I had a few rough days with family and work, but I can tell you I DID go buy the backdrops, then found out that the foamcore is only 20x30 inches where the backdrops are 24x36" Not a problem, I made the foamcore large, then made 2 different panel of 2 sheets each. But now I find the wall space is about 1/2" too short  I'll have to trim down one of the panels to get it to temp. fit :) Then I have to lay at least one more strip of grass mat because I never got that far across the table  Gonna be a late one tonight, but I'll have some sort of pictures to show :P Now if I can just find a place to set those 300 troops that are in the area  Da General

Well, not much to show, but I did clear a small area on the table and got the backdrops up. I quickly added a few trees and some tanks. Here is what it looks like  Don't mind the framing, remember I did this real quick

Here is a couple more of just the background :)

I hope to get more of the table cleaned up and the scene detailed better.

It almost makes me want to sing the theme song from the Sound of Music.
Almost...

Blasto,
Looks good. You might start experimenting with how close to set you 3d items next to the background to gain some perspective and depth.

Looks good!

I once took some decent diorama shots (albeit with 32x tanks) using a similar style of background about three or so years ago. When the photos were taken with the right lighting and coloration, the background blended quite well. Your are on to something good, Blasto 8)

Thanks, As I said, it was a scene I threw together in a hurry after 1 AM :? It does need some tweeking, but keep in mind the shelve is only about 2 feet wide. Priority now is finding places to put all the extra troops and tanks, etc. There will be time later for all the tweeking. Also, the scene needs to be changable - ie. trees, bushes, rocks, etc. But it sure does beat looking at a bare off white wall behind the scene 8) Da General

Great pics General & T-man! :P

I'm always looking for some backdrop pictures but have never found anything good enough or to scale.

Nice pics general, thanks of posting them. Here are the dio panoramas I once considered getting, some look like they would be pretty nice, but they are pricey and I would like to see one up close before I go for it.
