I started with the Browning 1919 from the M3A3 Halftrack, and then cut off the barrel, then I put on an appropriate barrel, then I used the tripod from the German MG 32 guns, and then just cut it down

I just got the book The Devils Paint Brush on the maxim 08 MG. This is the premier book on the Maxim. Well I am a little diapointed. It has just about every little detail of the gun but almost no info on the sled mount . A few pics but no drawings . I guess I have to play it by ear. This will slow down the project. They do have some drawings of the actual gun but not very detailed. The maxim and the 30 cal with water jacket may not be the same size. But they look the same almost.
1. The 30 cal has a pistol grip the maxim a double D.
2. The maxim has the fusee spring cover on the left side the 30 cal does not.
3. Early maxims had a cloth belt, 30 cal breakaway links.
4. Of course the maxim had a complicated sled mount, 30 cal a simple tripod.
Back to the drawing board. :?
