I'd do 1:32 but I need help with figuring out what vehicles will work and what won't... I know I wouldn't win because it'd be a ragtag patchwork of gear because I don't have two of anything and honestly with small scale you gotta have a pretty big scene. It has to be winter, ETO? Would it be plausible to use my FOv Tiger I in tri-color, and my FOV stuart, and my British Firefly? I'll need some soldiers but that's the easy part. I'm in for 1:32.

I've started "re-landscaping" part of my back yard for my dio. I'm sure my mom will find it accents the house well.
I was on a roll, but I had to come in because I've already got a stuffy nose and it's real windy outside, and even though it's Texas, and it's not COLD, it's cool enough to be bothersome. I have to say though where I'm going with mine is pretty cool. I just hope it doesn't rain really bad, or my cat doesn't run through and destory stuff.
Other than that, RED, I have a question. I know the rules state historically accurate, but the only 1:18 item I have that could make a diorama possible is the Pak-40 Hanomag. It's in tri-color paint, and it's all I have. I don't have the ability or time to do a custom on it. I've already come up with a story behind everything, and an idea, not to mention I've started building, and I really hope it doesn't have to crash and burn because my Hanomag doesn't have whitewash.
I really want to do this and I know mine is going to be really nice, I just don't have the historically correct figures nor vehicles. I do have an excuse though, it's first snowfall, and the story behind mine has something where they need as little equipment as possible... So I guess it could work. Just that Hanomag...
Is that what you mean by historically correct?

Not a problem!!!!! I know you wanted to do the 1:32 scale contest so I will bend the rules a little!!!!! By historiclly accurate I was talking about not haveing Japanese figures in a Battle of the Bulge diorama or Germans in winter gear Fighting Marines at Tarawa!!!! I do have to say I dig the fact that you are willing to improvise, adapt, and overcome in your diorama---nice ideal to come up with 1st snow for the lack of winter equipment!!!! ---RED---

I've had to work a lot lately, haven't had any time... It sucks because I work from 2-10:30 and I don't have daylight... and I got off tonight at midnight due to lack of people closing... I'm going to try and pull it off, I just don't think it's going to be what I want. I need more dirt, and sticks. I'll take a pic tonight... I've got decent lighting out there and with a flash it should do it.

Here is my progress, of course I'm planning a lot more "trees" and this only makes up a third of my whole diorama. The reason it looks wierd from above is because I'm not planning on taking pics from this angle... Can you say super macro action shots? This is also without my artificial snow. I'm laying down floral moss in spots to give it the forest feel, after looking at pictures of the Ardennes it seems that the undergrowth is still pretty green even under snow. I'm using sticks from an oak tree to act as trees, since you won't see it from above, it will give the effect of tree trunks.
As you can see I dug a creek bed, and with the roots naturally criss-crossing it, I added some fallen trees and moss to it. I'm going to place rocks also. You can see the first support I put in for my bridge, which obviously will be a field-built bridge wide enough for the Pak-40 Hanomag.
Here's a basic taste of the scenario...
The Germans have placed a single mobile artillery piece in the Ardennes, along a ridge that overlooks key terrain features. Receiving coordinates to shell an American convoy moving through the countryside, the crew of the Pak-40 Hanomag fires off it's ammo load after almost a week of nothing to do. The other soldiers accompanying the crew are relaxed, not fearing anything as a Panzer division is within several miles heading to intercept the convoy. Around a small fire, but still armed, two soldiers talk of victory in the Ardennes.
Across from their camp, behind a small rise in the land, the field-constructed bridge stands guarded by a single Otto. He too, is secure enough to listen to nature and watch what little wild life there is in the trees. Little does he know that 100 feet down the creek bed a task force of four lightly-geared American GIs tread on eggshells with the sole mission to destroy one of many artillery emplacements which threatens to slow down the American advance. A bazookaman, a BAR gunner, a GI armed with a Thompson and an officer with his .45 get within earshot of the Otto... Resting the bi-pod on a downed tree spread across the creek bed, the gunner waits for the thunder of the Pak-40. A body falls just as the rumbling dies off...
Got a lot more.
